If You want to remove the gearbox on a Ford Ranger then You will need to go to a shop. This is part of the transmission, and can not be taken out without the tools at a shop, plus it is extremely complicated to do. The procedure will cost You about 1200 dollars, plus whatever repairs need to be done. This is normally a two-day job, assuming the work on Your vehicle right away. The reason a shop has to do it is because of the need for the lift to get the transmission out of the car. Beyond that, there is a lot of small parts that need to be removed in the right order to get it loose.
