The Ford Taurus uses DOT 3 brake fluid as standard. This a pretty common hydraulic fluid that You should be able to find at any major auto parts store. You should check Your brake fluid every time that You change the oil to make sure that it is full. If You notice that is low then You should check the reservoir, the booster, and the lines where they meet each of the calipers on Your vehicle. If any of these spots are leaking that can lead to decreased brake performance. I recommend repairing all brake leaks as soon as possible because losing brake pressure can be a very dangerous situation where You would be unable to stop.
