The P1217 code is a generic one that indicates an issue with the throttle or pedal position sensor. It may show up alone, or with other codes present. It means that sensor switch E is getting low input. Youll find the sensor on the gas pedal and its responsible for telling the ECU when the gas pedal is down and how far. When the sensor detects low input, it will send the error code. Some of the most common causes for this error code to be thrown are bad electrical connections, a failing/failed ECU, a short in the wiring harness or a failed throttle or pedal position sensor. In all cases, the Check Engine light will always come on when this code pops up. Your car may also not respond when pushing the throttle, and it could also stall or accelerate poorly.
