The recommended coolant used for the Chevy Colorado is Dexcool with A50/50 mixture of distilled water. The coolant is not used for actual cooling the engine but it is used to stop rust formation inside the coolant system and lower the freezing temperature. The differences in the coolant ingredients are made because engine blocks are made of different metals and will require different chemicals to stop the rust formation on hose metals. As the best antifreeze specified for their engines, Dex-Cool is the antifreeze suggested by General Motors, the company that produces Chevys. To really identify it, it is an orange color and is an extended-life coolant, known for working up to 100,000 miles.
