The Chevy Trax uses SAE 5W-30 motor oil. Chevrolet recommends using synthetic oil whenever You need to change it for optimal performance. There are two types of oil that are on the market these days, synthetic and conventional. Synthetic oil is newer and is engineered in a lab to give You greater wear protection and longer life compared to petroleum-based conventional. This means that You will need fewer oil changes. On average You can go 7,500 miles between changes with synthetic compared to the 3,500 to 5,000 miles with conventional. Be sure to check Your oil at least once a month in Your car. You will want to make sure that the oil is filled fully and free from debris or damage.

The chevy trax will take 5w-30 oil. Synthetic oil for best performance but a synthetic blend is also acceptable.
