The type of oil that is recommended for the 2014 GMC Terrain iS5W-30 Synthetic for both the 2.4 L 4Cylinder and the 3.6 L V6 engine. The capacity for the Terrain iS5 quarts with a filter for the 2.4 L 4Cylinder and 6 quarts with a filter for the 3.6 L V6 engine. For both, the torque for the drain plug is 18 ft/lbs. The main purpose of oil is to help keep the engine clean. You should do an oil and filter change every 7,500 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. It only takes about 5 to 15 minutes to change the oil. Some of the tools needed are a drain pan, rags, ratchet, socket and socket extensions.

GMC recommends Dexos SAE 5W-30 for the 2014 Terrain. When temperatures drop below 29°C/20°F, an SAE 0W-30 maybe be used to help with cold starting.
