If You're dealing with an engine noise while in HV mode on Your Honda Clarity PHEV the most common reason for this is going to be that You're low on oil. It's causing the engine to struggle while You're in that mode as it's not lubricated correctly. The type of oil You're going to need to use will be 0W-20 synthetic motor oil. It will have a capacity of 3.3 US quarts when the filter is included. The capacity being small as it is You're only going to need to buy a one gallon jug for a full fill up.

If the honda clarity is having a tapping or engine noise, called a tappet, then it is likely caused by low oil pressure, extreme valve lash, or worn and damaged parts.
