The antifreeze or coolant, as it sometimes referred to, is responsible for maintaining and regulating the internal chambers temperature. Sometimes, however, the coolant or antifreeze can leak or lead to other issues in the car. Most commonly, any damage to or within the head gasket will lead to motor oils and antifreeze solutions blending with each other. This can cause a ton of damage, and can eventually lead to corrosion within the cars internal parts. The radiator tubes can also suffer from exposure to leaking coolant, which will give off a very odd smell. Finally, a crack in the tank itself can cause the coolant to leak too.
