According to the owners manual for a 2013 Chevy Avalanche the recommended fluid to use is a GM power steering fluid and the GM part number for it iS89021184. While that's the recommended fluid it isn't your only option and there are plenty of other compatible choices out there such as Valvoline that meets all of the GM specifications. It's also pretty afFordable and you shouldn't have trouble finding a 1 quart bottle for something close to $7. When checking your power steering fluid levels it's important for your engine to be cold at the time for accurate readings. Just use the dipstick and check your levels the same way you'd check your oil. - Scott L.
