The type of transmission fluid that should be used in the 2000 Ford F-350 is Mercon V. It used to use just Mercon but it was changed to Mercon V. The capacity for the truck is 12.7 pints With oil cooler or 11.6 pints Without oil cooler for the 5 & 6-speed manual and 6.4 quarts for initial fill and 17.6 total fill for the 4 speed 26 Plate 4R100 and 17 quarts total fill for the 4 speed 20 Plate 4R10. Transmission fluid is used to lubricate the parts of the transmission for optimum performance. You should change the fluid every 60,000 miles or so. The cost of a transmission fluid change is anywhere from $120 to $150 in labor costs.
