The 2002 GMC Sonoma uses the highly recommended Valvoline Conventional Transmission fluid, in the 1 quart containers that can be found at most automotive parts and accessories locations around the United States. It uses Dexron VI or ATF 4 fluid. This vehicle has a tranny fluid capacity of up to 5.0 quarts. You can expect to pay between $8 and $43 per container, depending on quantity and brand. If You choose to have the fluid replaced by a professional mechanic or an automotive service technician, You can expect to pay an additional $40 to $98 for labor. The reservoir can be located to the left of the transmission, on the passenger side of the engine bay, and is topped with a cap that will need to be removed to pour new fluid in.
