The recommended rear differential fluid for the 2003 Nissan Frontier is the SAE 75w-90 full synthetic api gl-5 hypoid gear oil. The differential fluid is essential for lubricating the gears, bearings and other internal parts, and provides cooling to these components as well. Like all other oils, differential gear oil eventually loses its ability to do its job properly and must be changed, to protect the differential assembly. If You keep driving after the oil limit has been reached, You will cause damage to the differential. The repairs may cost above $1200. So to avoid any extensive damage and save money, get Your differential fluid changed after every 30,000 to 60,000 miles.
