The cabin air filter for a 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser is going to be located behind the glove box on the passenger's side of the vehicle. You're going to need to first open the boxAnd then undo the bolts on each side of it. Once You do that You can then go ahead and push in on each side with one hand and then lift up and out with it. Your outer glove box should come off when You do this. Once You have the outer box off You'll now be able to see where the cabin air filter sits. A replacement filter will cost between $5 and $20.

The cabin air filters (there are two identical filters that are stacked) are supposed to be installed in the AC cooling unit box, next to the evaporator. The cooling unit box is located behind the glove compartment, next to the blower unit. For my 2005 Land Cruiser, there was no access door on the cooling unit cover for a filter to be installed. I was able to replace the cooling unit cover with a new cover that had a slot for the cabin filters (Toyota part #88891-60040) and the filter door cover (Toyota part #88891-60060). I was then able to put in the filters. It's not a hard job and you don't need special tools, and can be completed in about two hours. If you are going to make this modification, I would also recommend cleaning all of the debris in the cooling unit box (use a shopvac with a crevice tool), and also using an evaporator refresh kit (Toyota part #00053-00008), that will clean any mildew and/or mold that might have accumulated over the years.
