When You have a check engine light in Your BMW the first thing You should do is stop driving as soon as possible. These usually indicate that there is a problem with the engine and it can be dangerous to continue driving with one on. Once You have stopped You can use an OBD II scan tool to determine if there are any codes. If You have a code 7E8 that means that there is a problem somewhere within the engine. You will need to use a more advanced scan tool to read the rest of the code to help pin point the problem. Frequently it is a catalytic converter problem though on BMW vehicles.
