The BMW E60's Gateway Control Module or "KGM" is integrated with other modules in the rack installed behind the passenger side glove compartment. It is connected to a wiring harness with two 51-pin plug-in connectors. The KGM is progRammed to the vehicle to control the front doors, power windows, exterior mirrors, central locking system and the E60's entrance lights. It is also connected to managing the BMW's MPM which controls the iDrive, the navigation screen, door chimes and Audio system, among other things. If the KGM is failing, the E60's iDrive will not start, the navigation screen will be disabled and the vehicle will experience severe battery drain. The average cost to replace the Gateway Control Module is $300 in parts alone.
