There are a couple meanings for the CF33 code from Your BMW, which include: Messages from engine control unit doesn't exist, "Error will not cause a warning light", "Error is not currently present", "Test conditions have been completed", and "Timeout". You'll note all of these are related to the onboard computer, instead of the mechanical systems. Many times, You may get this due to a weak battery/discharge, so that's a place to start. Now, for some bad news. BMW has a service bulletin out for this issue, SI B24 10 07, and there's a software issue which can also cause this, entitle "Transmission is in Failsafe mode with EGS Fault CF33 Storage". This affects BMWs from 2006 througH2007 mostly. If You encounter this, You'll need to take it in to the dealer to get it cleared, as the bulletin notes, this fault entry can't be cleared.
