The outside temperature sensor in a Chevy Equinox can be found at the front of the engine bay on the radiator support bracket. This is what measures the ambient air temperature wherever You are at. This information is useful for You to know the temperature outside, but it is also good information for Your ECU to have. Colder air is more dense than warmer air so if Your car knows the temperature it can help make better judgements on how much air You will need to get the correct air to fuELRatio in Your engine to complete the combustion in the cylinder. If Your ambient air sensor is failing You will usually notice inaccurate temperatures on the display in the car.

It is located on the lower part of the radiator support bracket and pretty much requires removing the whole front of the car to get to.
