If Your Toyota vehicle is returning a C1223 trouble code, it means there is an issue with the left rear wheel speed sensor. More specifically, the input signal is likely zero. This trouble code is usually accompanied with the check engine light and/or anti-lock brake system light in the instrument cluster. Wheel speed is calculated by the electronic brake control module, which uses the speed sensor's AC signal. If the sensor isn't returning a signal according to factory specifications, the OBDII code will be set by the EBCM. In some cases, the sensor isn't actually to blame. The harness to it may be shorted or open or there might be a poor electrical connection. If You do need to replace the speed sensor, You can expect to pay between $340 and $570. Labor accounts for $80 to $100 of that expense.

Toyota vehicles will display the C1223 code when the Anti-Lock Brake control system is not set to factory specifications.
