The knock sensor is located on the engine block near the cylinder head on the Mazda2. This sensor is designed to notice vibrations in the engine from combustion that should not be there. While there is always noise coming from the engine, there can be issues that a normal human ear cant hear. When the sensor tells You that there is a knock it means You may have something that will cause damage to the engine. If the sensor gives You a trouble code You need to take it to the shop. If You leave it alone You may end up with a damaged engine, or total failure depending on what the issue is.

The knock sensors in your Mazda 2 vehicle records operating sounds of your engine to prevent and warn of damage and usually bolted to the side of the engine block, on the intake manifold or in the cylinder head.
