The Mercedes Sprinter van's P229F error code indicates a NOX sensor is experiencing a low voltage. A NOX sensor works in tandem with a module and together they monitor exhaust and diesel fuel emissions. The sprinter is equipped with two NOX sensors located on the downstream and upstream of its exhauSTSystem. The Mercedes' ECM throws the P229F code when it detects a lower-than-expected voltage signal from the Bank 1 sensor. In general the diesel or AdBlue fluid may be d***y or contaminated, the wrong type or added in incorrect doses. To clear the code try cleaning the AdBlue tank thoroughly and check that components are not degraded by soot. If necessary, replace the sensor. Cost of replacement averages $470-$550 in parts and labor.
