The Subaru WRX uses ATF HP/PS Power Steering Fluid. While not often considered a high maintenance item, power steering fluid is nevertheless an important part of Your vehicle's steering system. The cost of getting Your power steering flushed is between $100 and $130. There is disagreement on how often power steering fluid should be changed. The general consensus is that it should be performed every two years or about every 30,000 miles. If there is a low amount of fluid present in Your system, air will start to circulate through the steering mechanism and if You can hear squealing noises when You turn Your steering wheel then that's a sure sign that Your power steering fluid needs to be replaced.

The recommended power steering fluid type for the Subaru WRX is Dexron III.

The owner's manual for my 2011 WRX recommends Subaru Dexron III ATF and I would have to order it where I live. The manual also states, under "CAUTION!" to "never use different brands together."
