What's the vw Passat electronic parking brake fault code 02443?

The Volkswagen Passat's 02443 error code indicates a fault with the electronic parking brake's wiring. In most instances frayed or disconnected wires running between the parking brake and it's power or activation button cause the error to be thrown. It can also indicate a fault with the button itself if it is stuck or jammed into position. Repair involves exaMINIng the appropriate wires and/or replacing the EPB power button. After replacing parts, the manufacturer suggests disconnecting the battery for 10 seconds before reconnecting. Turn the ignition on and depress the brake pedal. Cycle through turning on the PB twice before rescanning codes to clear. Also an updated Electronic Parking Brake switch is available for 2006-2007 models under TSB 46-08-04. 2008 models should not be affected by this TSB.
