If Your Ford Ranger is making a rattling sound when You are driving it with a load in the back then You have a couple of things to consider. The first is that the suspension on the truck is wearing down and that the added weight is causing it to strain and rattle as You move. The other option is that the wheel bearing is not holding up well, and again under pressure, they are making noise. Both of these need to be checked right away as either one can lead to damage to the vehicle. It is also, though a lot less likely, that the mounting brackets for the bed of the truck are bad and the entire bed is shifting, though again this is not very common.

A common failure point in ford ranger vehicles, which can lead to rattling under load or at high rpms, is a failure of the primary timing chain, which may be covered under tsb or warranty.
