If Your Ford Ranger traction control light comes on it usually is a sign that Your truck has lost traction at some point. The traction control light will flash to let You know that the system is working to prevent a traction control loss in slippery conditions. If Your traction control light stays on and You did not press any buttons then there may be a fault with the system. The system can be manually engaged in snowy or icy situations so that You have better traction, but if You did do this then there usually is a fault. It is able to detect traction loss through sensors at the wheels. I would say check these sensors for any signs of debris.

If the traction control light comes on, this may mean that the wheel speed sensor is d***y or corroded, or that you have a wiring problem.
