There are some common reasons why You might get the Check Gauges light illuminating on Your Chevrolet S-10. The first is that You have a charging system issue, such as with the alternator providing too many or too volts to the system. Another is when You have a low oil pressure situation; or, related to this, the oil pressure sending unit. Your Chevy uses the CG light as a catch-all here, instead of an oil light. Yet another possibility here is that You have some wires coming loose; if You look under the glove box, You should see a brown and black wire pressing against the firewall; verify they're tightly mated to their connectors, as when they aren't, You'll also have the light coming on.

The check gauge light in a chevy s10 means that there is most likely a charging issue related to the alternator over or under charging.
