Depending on the type of noise You're hearing during acceleration in the Ford Ranger it could be a few different things. If the noise is similar to a ticking sound it's possible that there is an exhaust manifold leak. It may also be a bad pulley or bearings that will rattle when they're going bad. If the sound is more of a whine or hum then it could be something that's a common issue in the Ranger. The oil pump is known to send vibrations through the oil pan causing the noise. It's not harmful to Your vehicle at all but it can be annoying. Fortunately the warranty will cover the replacement of the oil pan as well as the sump which will fix the issue. -

The power steering pump being faulty is a very common reason why your ford ranger might whine when accelerating.
