Don’t forget to get more info. Check out the 2007 Dodge Dakota’s Vehicle History for more insight as well.

What’s up With the 2007 Dodge Dakota SLT?

The SLT is the mid-trim option for the 2007 Dodge Dakota lineup. The base trim is the ST with the Laramie considered the upper trim. As the mid-range option, it does have a lot going for it. It comes with the best engine option (for those looking for power) as well.

The SLT may not be as “fancy” as the Laramie, but it does offer a lot of the features drivers want in this type of vehicle. Even better, it’s maintained its value well. The starting price point for this vehicle when new was $23,255 back in 2007.

It has several configuration options, including the 4×2 and 4×4 setup as well as either the club cab or the quad cab. The quad gives you room for up to six people rather comfortably.

The Engine and its Performance

If you’re buying a truck, you probably want to get some power out of it. The 2007 Dodge Dakota SLT offers a standard 3.7-L V6 engine. It produces 210 horsepower and 235 lb-ft.. This truck is able to tow up to 3850 pounds and has a payload capacity of 1510.

Buyers could also choose from several other options. That includes the 4.7L V8 engine. That engine produces 230 horsepower. Or, if you want to choose a flexible fuel option, the 2007 Dakota SLT offered a 4.7L V8 with flexible E85 fuel.

The truck features a six-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Drivers can also choose the optional four-speed automatic transmission if desired.

There were a few optional features on the SLT’s powertrain. That includes an optional block heater, transmission oil cooler, and transmission lock-up torque converter. You may want to go for the upgraded heavy-duty battery option and limited slip differential.

This truck also offered an optional multi-speed automatic transmission, full-time four-wheel drive, and transmission electronic control. Of course, a lot of these features are not necessarily the best in terms of today’s quality, but they did provide exceptional drive quality then.

Let’s talk about fuel economy. It’s a 2007 and a truck with a big engine – just to remind you. The EPA-estimated fuel economy here is 14 city and 19 highway for a combined 15 miles per gallon. That’s not going to get you far, but it is expected for this year.

Consider the Body of the 2007 Dodge Dakota SLT

The exterior body trim for the SLT isn’t much different from the other trim options. However, you do have a lot of optional upgrades. You’ll find these in many of the available pre-owned cars today.

That includes things like paint with badging and body-colored front bumpers. For those planning to do a lot of towing, two front row hooks and a trailer hitch were both optional features. Another option is the Class IV trailering with hitch option. A lot of trucks also featured the bedliner.

It’s a good-looking truck. It doesn’t have a lot of flair to it, but that isn’t what truck owners are often after.

Where you need to get a bit concerned is with this vehicle’s safety and recalls. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives this vehicle an overall good score, but there are concerns about rollovers noted.

There are also a number of recalls. As of October of 2020, it had 11 recalls. The most important relate to the electrical system, airbags, and powertrain. There are also three investigations and over 500 consumer complaints related to this vehicle. Many of those relate to the powertrain and steering.

What’s Inside the 2007 Dodge Dakota SLT?

One of the things this truck can brag about is its size. Depending on which cab you choose, you will have room for five to six people. The back seat is comfortable – if you’re driving around a bunch of guys, they should do well back there as well.

The vehicle also offers remote keyless entry and folding mirrors. Remote engine start is an optional feature on this trim as well. It’s a decent setup for a truck from 2007. You’ll find these are standard features on the Laramie.

The seats are an upgraded upholstery as standard. You can also upgrade to the leather upholstery, which is a decent quality. The seats are adjustable with power features. Also, heated front seats were another optional feature as well as that classy leather steering wheel.

As for entertainment features, the 2007 Dodge Dakota SLT did offer more than the base trim.

However, most features are only available on the Laramie – the top trim. (Remember: We said it was the nice upgrade version? Here’s why.)

The vehicle offers optional steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, optional Alpine speakers, and a radio data system. There’s also an optional Sirius radio with a six-disc in-dash CD player and a CD-MP3 decoder feature available as well.
