In creating the 2011 Edge, Ford aimed to infuse reliability in every facet of its build. While they largely achieved their goal, problems have still cropped up through the years. And since most appeared long after the vehicles were sold, recalls and technical service bulletins were their only options.

Does the 2011 Ford Edge have any recalls for its backup camera system?

No, not as of August 2020, but there are complaints involving the backup camera system, such as:

  • Backup camera turns on while driving
  • Speed control fails to operate
  • Transmission shifts into 5th gear from a stop

Fortunately, in this article, we will go over these complaints, which all connect to backup camera malfunction in the 2011 Ford Edge. Using the info we provide, you can seek the proper repairs and resume your travels without further issues.

Backup Camera May Turn on While in Drive

NHTSA Complaint ID: 10053274

When equipped with the 6F55 or 6F50 transmissions, the 2011 Edge can exhibit some rather strange issues. Intermittently, the transmission could start slipping out of gear, end up in “Neutral,” or shift to 5th gear instead of 1st when accelerating from a stop.

Furthermore, the speed control could stop working as expected. As far as the backup camera goes, the transmission issues could result in this device turning on unexpectedly while in “Drive.”

Strangely enough, all these issues point back to a faulty digital transmission range sensor. When the electrical circuit in the sensor experiences high resistance, any of these problems could arise. Sometimes, more than one occurs at the same time.

Techs can resolve this problem by checking the sensor’s resistance using the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure. Then, if the test reveals high resistance, they can replace the sensor with a new one to resolve the problem in full.

What Should You Do to Address a 2011 Ford Edge Recall Notice?

Great to drive, comfortable drive, camera and sync issues
My youngest son purchased a used 2011 Ford Edge Limited for his first car out of college. This car feels solid and safe, is extremely comfortable, and drives amazingly. His issues with i have been that he has had to reset the sync system several times to keep the bluetooth to his phone working, which has always solved the problem for a time, and that the backup camera stopped working. We have tried numerous solutions recommended on the internet to resolve the camera issue, but nothing has worked. Also there appears to be no reset button on his backup camera. He continues to try to solve this issue, but is just living without a backup camera at this point.t
