If you have never had a 2014 Ford F-150 in the past, then resetting the oil change light might not come naturally to you. Fortunately, it’s easy to do, and it only takes a few seconds of your time.

With this article, you’ll learn how to turn off the oil change light and reset the system. That way, you can reset it yourself if you ever have to replace your oil again in the future without the help of someone who does it for you.

The 2014 Ford F-150 Oil Change

Like many Ford vehicles, the Ford F-150 does have the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor installed in the information panel. This is a helpful monitor that lets you know as your oil is used and decreases in its availability or quality.

The system works on an advanced algorithm, and it will let you know when your oil life has reached 15%, 5% and 0%. If your vehicle has reached 0%, it’s time to stop what you’re doing and immediately take it in for service. A 0% reading is a warning that your vehicle is running on dirty or limited oil which could harm your engine.

Most people will take their vehicles in for an oil change. If you do that, then a technician should perform the service and teach you how to reset the system (if they don’t do it themselves). If they don’t, then you will need to reset the system on your own.

You can watch this instructional video to see how to reset the IOLM system on your own, or follow these simple steps:

Turn the ignition to “on” but don’t allow the engine to start.

On the dashboard, press and hold down the select/release knob. The monitor will then read “Oil life x*x percent. Hold. Reset= New.”

When you see this screen, navigate with the directional pad that is located on your steering wheel.

Finally, press and hold down the reset button for just a few seconds, then release it. The oil life should show as being reset to 100%.

The basic menu path that you should use is: Settings> Vehicle> Oil Life Reset. Once you’ve done this, the IOLM system will be reset, starting from 100% and decreasing over time. You can also choose a different percentage if you’d like.
