You just changed your car’s oil, but that oil-change light on your Jeep Compass’s dash is still illuminated–great.

As advanced as oil-life monitoring systems are these days, they still need to be reset after each oil change to get rid of the warning light.

So, how do you reset the “change oil” light on a 2018 Jeep Compass?

The short answer is to simply depress the gas pedal several times while the vehicle is in accessory mode.

Still, you may have additional questions about how your Jeep’s oil-life monitoring system works and what steps you need to take to reset the oil light on your 2018 Compass. We’ll cover all this in detail for you below.

About Jeeps’ Oil-Life Monitoring System

Modern Jeep vehicles are equipped with an oil-life monitoring system, which consists of an oil quality sensor that works alongside the vehicle’s on-board computer. This system takes many factors into account when calculating oil life, including driving conditions.

When the oil life on your Compass drops below about 15%, you’ll notice a warning light on your dashboard reminding you to have your oil changed soon.

If you have your oil changed at a licensed Jeep/Chrysler service center, your technician will probably take care of resetting your oil light for you. However, if you prefer to handle your own oil changes, you’ll need to know how to reset this system yourself.

How to Reset the Oil Change Light on a Jeep Compass

Fortunately, resetting the oil change indicator light on a 2018 Jeep Compass is very straight-forward. You can watch this YouTube video for a step-by-step guide; although this video is for a Jeep Renegade, the process is identical for the 2018 Compass.

To reset the oil change light on your 2018 Compass, start the vehicle in “accessory” mode, If you have a Compass with keyless ignition, this simply means pressing the “engine start” button without holding down the brake pedal.

If your Compass uses a traditional ignition key, simply turn the key to the “accessory/auxiliary” setting without turning the engine completely on.

Next, depress the accelerator pedal at least three times within a span of about 10 seconds. This should reset your oil life indicator. To check your work, try shutting the car off and turning it back on to make sure the warning light doesn’t come back on.
