Is off-roading your thing, but you still want the ability to drive to and from work with ease? You may be after a Jeep— one of the most iconic vehicle brands in the U.S. The 2019 Cherokee Latitude could be on your radar for all it offers.
What does the 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude offer?
The Latitude, a four-door front-wheel-drive or a four-door 4×4, features a 2.4-L I-4 engine producing 180 horsepower with a 9-speed automatic and auto-manual transmission. It’s the base trim model for the 2019 Jeep Cherokee but has plenty to offer drivers.
It’s a good looking and pretty hard-hitting vehicle, but there’s more to know about it before you decide to buy. Check out the Jeep Cherokee Latitude’s Vehicle History for a total breakdown of its features. Here, we’ll cover the specs you can’t miss.
What You Have to Know about the 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude
Jeep rolled out the 2019 Cherokee in several trim options. The latitude is the base model followed by the Latitude Plus, Limited, Trailhawk (which is the first to offer a bigger engine), and the Overland.
With a starting MSRP of $25,045, the Latitude is packed with features and well worth a closer look. This video provides a clear overview of this model’s features.
It’s easy to confuse the Latitude with the Latitude Plus — and they are often confused in many of the specs listed out there.
Let’s go over the key specs for the base model. It offers a 2.4-L I-4 engine with a 9-speed automatic and auto-manual transmission. This vehicle produces 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque.
It has some towing power at 2000 pounds and a payload capacity of 1000 pounds. It’s not going to replace your work truck, but it can lug a small trailer with ease.
It is possible to upgrade the Latitude to a bigger engine — a 3.2-L V6 engine producing 271 horsepower. This engine doesn’t become standard in the Cherokee lineup until you get to the Trailhawk.
The 2.4-L engine gets decent fuel economy. According to the EPA estimate, it gets 22 city and 31 highway for a combined 25 miles per gallon overall. The bigger engine drops that to 23 combined miles per gallon.
When it comes to driving quality, the Cherokee Latitude is solid. It has four-wheel independent suspension on 17-inch wheels. It will get you out of those dirt trails just fine. You may wish to upgrade to the alloy wheels.
Key Features on the 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude
The body of this vehicle isn’t your typical Jeep design, but a more SUV-like design. It has a rear lip spoiler, fender flares that give it that end, and a black rear and front bumper. There is an optional trailer hitch and class III trailering with hitch if you’re after it.
The Latitude offers base features across the board with optional upgrades. That includes an optional heated steering wheel and remote start engine. Some features are standard such as auto-locking doors, integrated key/remote, valet function, and cruise control with steering wheel controls. There’s a single USB port on this model, power rearmost windows, and driver manual folding mirrors.
When it comes to the entertainment onboard the 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude, you’ll find Apple CarPlay and Android Auto already loaded on an 8.4-inch touchscreen display. Voice-activated radio is available as is speed-sensitive volume control. It also has plenty of warning features and a rearview (ParkView) camera.
What about the Other Trims?
Compared to the other trim options, the 2019 Cherokee Latitude does a good job competing for the reduced price point.
The Trailhawk, which is really the mid-range “better” option does include more tech, red tow hooks, and a matte-black hood decal (if you’re into good looks) along with some other nice features like all-terrain tires. It also comes with the bigger torquier turbo four-cylinder engine — an optional upgrade.
The upgraded models also give you more (real) towing power with up to 4500 pounds of capacity and a much better off-road capability setup, which some would call class-leading. If you’re planning to do off-roading, the Latitude may not cut it as well.
Here’s the other concern. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude only a four-star safety rating. On another worrisome note, there are already nine recalls on this vehicle (as of October of 2020). That includes concerns with the engine, electrical system, powertrain, seats, and the brakes. Take that into consideration before buying.
Is the 2019 Cherokee Latitude Right for You?
There’s no doubt this vehicle has plenty to offer, but the safety ratings and the base-model engine limitations could hold some people back. That’s the key, though. You can upgrade to get additional features if you’re heading out on the road.
