Thanks to its powerful V8 engine, the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 can reach speeds of up to 173 miles per hour. Do you really need to know anything else about the trim version of this iconic vehicle? If so, keep reading!

What really stands out about the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 trim level?

If you narrow it down to a single feature, it’s that big, glorious V8 engine that provides 526 horsepower, compared to the base Ford EcoBoost engine that gets 310 horsepower in the lower Mustang trim levels.

There are a few other things to note about the Shelby GT350, so we’ll cover the engine and those other features in this article.

The 2020 Ford Mustang

Virtually everyone in the world has heard of the legendary Ford Mustang. Although it has been around for decades, the 2020 version is clearly a modernized version of this highly regarded muscle car.

When you buy a 2020 Ford Mustang, you’re really making a statement to the world about your lifestyle. Here’s a fun comparison:

The Ford F-150 was ranked as the #1 full-sized pickup truck in America in 2020. Even the two lowest trim versions of the 2020 Ford Mustang — the EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium — have an engine with more horsepower than the F150 (310 horsepower compared to 250 in the F150). The truck also gets better gas mileage than the Mustang!

But Ford’s popular EcoBoost engines really only scratch the surface of the 2020 Mustang trims. The GT and GT Premium trims upgrade to a 5.0-liter Ti engine that gets a whopping 460 horsepower. The Bullitt trim stretches another 20 horsepower out of the same engine, all of which are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Buyers who want the true “muscle car” experience won’t be able to settle for anything less than the Shelby GT350 trim, however. It has a gorgeous V8, manual, seven-speed transmission and tops out at 526 horsepower (also available in the Shelby GT350R trim). The Shelby trim versions are also enjoying a small boost in popularity after the hit movie “Ford v Ferrari,” which came out in 2019.

Rounding out the Mustang trims, the ultimate GT500 tops out at a breathtaking 760 horsepower. It will make your jaw drop, set you back by about $70,000, and, quite possibly, blow your eyebrows off.

Despite all that power, we should mention that the 2020 Ford Mustang received excellent five-star crash safety ratings from the NHTSA.

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is not kidding around. To save some weight, the car doesn’t even come with rear seats. You can have them added to this classic muscle trim as an option if you want to make it a four-seater.

The cloth roof for the convertible model doesn’t offer any flashy versions either. It comes in black. Just black. And you probably won’t care, because you’ll usually be driving around with the top down anyway.

The interior has a combination of classic-style gauges and a digital dashboard. Once again, it’s a clearly modern version of the classic muscle car. But the real draw for the Shelby GT350 is always going to be the engine.

Other than airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC), there aren’t very many modern safety features in the Shelby GT350. In sports cars that can top out around 180 miles per hour, automakers probably think, “Why bother?”

No amount of active safety features or warning systems are going to make a difference at those kinds of top speeds. You can have active safety features added as options if you plan to obey the speed limit at all times in your sports car, however.

Run a Vehicle History Check Before Buying a Sports Car

Ford Mustangs are not known for retaining their resale value very well. That’s why it’s always wise to run a Vehicle History check right here before buying to make sure you’re not paying too much for your next sports car.
