Can you think of a car with more history than the Ford Mustang? It’s crazy to look at the HP difference between the early model GTs and the newer ones. 460 HP on a base GT? It doesn’t get much better than that. Too bad it had a few issues.

Have any recalls been issued on the Mustang GT?

There are three total recalls, including:

  • Improper calibration of the front facing camera
  • Too short of a chime for the out of “Park” warning
  • Startup issues with the instrument cluster

In this article, we’ll look at each one of the three Ford Mustang GT recalls in detail. You can then follow the steps provided to ensure a qualified professional corrects the problem. Not only will that make you safer on the road, but it will give you peace of mind as well.

Out of ‘Park’ Warning Message and Chime too Short

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V263000

The chime and warning message stating that the Mustang GT is out of “Park” is an important notification to ensure the driver doesn’t exit the vehicle when it’s in a gear that may cause it to move. This protective noise and instrument cluster warning reduce the risk of driver error and unexpected vehicle motion.

On 2019 and 2020 Mustang GT vehicles, the Out of Park warning message and chime may be shorter than intended. That doesn’t give the driver enough warning, and it may result in the vehicle moving because the driver exits the vehicle when it’s not in “Park.”

To correct the problem, dealers will reprogram the instrument cluster.

Instrument Cluster May Go Blank on Start-up

The instrument cluster conveys important information to the driver such as vehicle speed, fuel level and safety warnings. Without this information, there is an increased risk of crashes, vehicle damage and other problems.

Some 2019 and 2020 Mustang GT vehicles have instrument clusters that can go blank on startup. These vehicles don’t provide their drivers with the necessary information to be safe on the road.

Because of that, there’s an increased risk of safety problems and moving violations in these vehicles.

Dealers will reprogram the Instrument Panel Cluster Assembly (IPCA) in affected vehicles to correct the problem.

Front Facing Camera Improperly Installed

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V306000

The front facing camera on the 2020 Mustang GT is used to alert the Pre-Collision Assist Feature in the vehicle of an impending hazard.

This camera also works in conjunction with other safety systems on the vehicle, such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping System, Driver Alert, and Auto High Beam Control, to ensure that a collision is avoided and drivers are kept safe.

When the front facing camera is improperly installed, it may not work in conjunction with the Pre-Collision Assist Feature, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping System, Driver Alert, or the Auto High Beam Control.

That can mean a driver is relying on a system that’s not operating properly, and it can increase the risk of a crash.

To correct this issue, dealers will perform the Lane Departure Warning System camera alignment procedure so the camera works correctly.
