How many recalls has Chrysler issued for the 2007 Pacifica?

Great news, as of September 2020, the answer is 0. However, there has been an investigation regarding an engine compartment fire linked to the 4.0L engine.

Thankfully, in this article, we’ll cover this 2007 Pacifica investigation in detail. In case Chrysler does issue a recall in the future, we’ll also cover how to go about handling it.

Engine Compartment Fire Investigation

In response to customer complaints about engine compartment fires resulting in the total loss of several 2007 Pacifica vehicles, NHTSA launched an initial investigation in 2007. Then, they reopened it to confirm their findings in 2008.

Through their initial investigation, they found that the fires were only linked to the 4.0L engines and seemed to start right after the loss of power steering fluid or noise from the pump.

They also discovered that Chrysler found a cross-threaded power steering line that allowed fluid to leak and potentially catch on fire.

Upon finding that the issue occurred in their plant, Chrysler responded by changing their parts and assembly process to prevent cross-threading.

This resolved the sealing issue and halted the leaks that caused the fires. The NHTSA closed the first investigation after confirming the findings of Chrysler.

Remarkably, Chrysler never issued a TSB about the problem, likely because it only affected a handful of vehicles. Regardless, when the NHTSA revisited the issue in 2008, they were able to confirm that the problem was resolved in full.

They reviewed numerous owner complaints, warranty claims, and other vital data. All of which verified that the assembly process changes eliminated the offending leaks and the risk of fire. With that, they closed the investigation and did not move forward in issuing a recall for the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica.

I own a 07 Pacific with under 67 thousand miles. The engine light came on and gascap spelled out on mileage. Looked up this problem and many people have had this problem and Chrysler has never called for a recall. After years of warm and cold weather the gas line connection shrinks causing problems
