The 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 hails from a long line of dependable trucks known to handle many different tasks with ease. Although their reliability is paramount, these trucks can still develop problems, which often occur after they land on the lot. After that happens, the manufacturer must issue a recall.

Does the 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 have recalls for the TIPM?

While there are none for this model year, as of August 2020, the 2006 Ram 1500 did have a TIPM recall after several complaints, including:

  • Truck won’t stay in park
  • Suddenly shifting to neutral
  • Rolling when parking brake is disengaged

Thankfully, in this article, we will discuss the prior totally integrated power module (TIPM) recall to alleviate fears about the 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 TIPM. Upon learning that info, you can rest assured that your truck is unlikely to have this problem.

Fears of Incorrect TIPM Settings for the Transfer Case

NHTSA Recall ID: 05V461000

The TIPM is a vital piece of equipment tasked with managing the entire electrical system. All the modules send information to this box, which, in turn, sends out the appropriate electrical signals in response.

On the 2006 Ram 1500, the TIPM had the wrong calibration set points for the transfer case, which allowed the system to revert to “Neutral” from “Park” without cause. When this happened, and the parking brake was not set, the truck could roll and cause serious damage and injuries.

Upon noticing the issue, Dodge sent out a recall and instructed techs to update the TIPM with their upgraded software. Fortunately, the 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 does not have this issue, since it already uses the new software program to operate its TIPM.

Bought this 2011 used, has generic relay wired to fuel pump
One of the tipm fixes is to wire a generic relay independent of the tipm module to control the fuel pump. My truck already had this wired when I did my initial inspection in June of 2022. It's been 6 months and have 145k miles on the truck, 12k since purchase. So far it's been a great truck. This Ram is an ST with the 3.7L. I had a hemi Ram previously and I do miss the power of the hemi. If you drive normally the V6 is surprisingly tough and pulls trailers just fine. Probably not going to set any speed records when towing and fuel economy when towing is p**s poor at best. Did a full tune up and got 19mpg on interstate driving at 75mph. But while pulling a 4k pound box trailer fulling loaded and 3 big guys in the truck I got 11mpg. Anyway, I really like the comfort of the interior. Smooth ride on the interstate for a 12 year old vehicle. Fells better built then newer Rams for some reason. If there wasn't the tipm issue or the recall for the transmission park thing I would have easily given 5 stars. Chrysler corporate needs to do some soul searching, because of these issues. The lack of a proper dealer response as well as their corporate stance on leaving the loyal customer behind. Oh well, best to do some research when purchasing a vehicle and know what you might be getting yourself into
