The 2011 Ford Edge has a reputation for reliability that has stuck with it through the years. Despite that, it still has occasional issues that warrant repairs. Even worse, the problems can occur after the vehicle has hit the roadways, leaving the carmaker to send out recall notices.

Have there been any brake booster recalls issued for the 2011 Ford Edge?

No, as of August 2020, no brake booster recalls are on record, but there have been complaints:

  • Strange noises while pressing the brakes
  • Increased brake pedal travel and effort
  • Dramatically decreased stopping power

Fortunately, in this article, we are here to share the details of all the 2011 Ford Edge brake booster issues. With our help, you will know what to do to get the repairs you need to fully enjoy your vehicle once again.

Potential for the Brake Booster Diaphragm to Tear

NHTSA ID: 10054925

When working correctly, the brake booster assists in pressurizing the system as you push down on the pedal. When it’s working correctly, you do not have to use as much force to enjoy the full stopping power of the vehicle.

Throughout this process, the diaphragm maintains a tight seal that preserves vacuum in the system as atmospheric pressure develops on the other side.

On the 2011 Ford Edge, the diaphragm can develop a small tear in its structure, letting air come into the otherwise pressurized part of the system.

When this happens, the brake pedal will feel spongy underfoot, and you may hear a hissing noise coming from the booster. As the tear worsens, you will have to exert more effort to activate the brakes.

To remedy this issue, Ford extended the warranty to either 150,000 miles or 10 years from the date of purchase. During that period, you can have your brake booster replaced with a new, non-defective booster at no cost to you.

Noise From Brake Booster While Hitting the Brakes

NHTSA ID: 10052836

After having the brake booster replaced with a new one, some owners have noticed a “grunting” noise occurring as they press down the brake pedal. This noise is the direct result of air entering the lines during the repair.

Technicians can resolve the issue by bleeding the brakes until all the bubbles stop coming out of the lines. This will not only stop the noise, but it also will make the brake pedal feel much firmer and reduce the effort needed to stop the vehicle.

What’s the Best Way to Handle a 2011 Ford Edge Recall?

If you’re unsure if your 2011 Ford Edge has any open recalls, head over to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website. Through their system, you can use just your VIN or year, make, and model to check for recalls.

If you find out that recalls are pending, call 1-866-436-7332 to speak to a representative at the Ford customer service center. They will let you know where to seek repairs and how to proceed through the next steps.

Go above and beyond in vetting your next vehicle with a recall check. Then, run a Vehicle History report to find out about any accidents or other incidents in its past. You’ll be glad you did as you can avoid costly repairs and other major issues that often arise due to the unknown.

Brake failure
Turned onto a road and hit brakes. Brakes went to the floor and not even slow down the vehicle. I then pumped the brakes and still did not slow vehicle down. I then pushed the emergency brake to stop the vehicle and nothing. No brakes at all to slow the vehicle down. I had to jump out and the vehicle rolled into the ditch and was a total loss. Police came out investigated the accident scene and declared that it was in fact brake failure. Had brake fluid in it full, new brakes all around front and back and no cuts or tears in brake line.
