Since its 2009 debut, the Journey has offered the utility of a crossover, yet the small footprint of a wagon. While not much has changed since its release, it’s still one of the best-selling 3rd-row vehicles from Dodge.

How many recalls has the 2015 Dodge Journey had? In total six, these include:

  • Inability to deactivate cruise control
  • Airbag deployment due to damaged wire
  • Faulty power steering return hose
  • Potential for moisture to enter ABS module
  • Engine cover could detach from mounting points
  • Placement of incorrect load limit label

Thankfully, in this article, we’ll explore each of these 2015 Journey recalls in detail, including how to get them resolved for free.

Inability to Deactivate Cruise Control

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V332000

When you set the cruise control, it begins regulating your speed so you can focus on the road ahead. Once you want to resume control of the throttle, you just switch it off and speed up or slow down as you see fit.

Car Cruise Control Button

On the 2015 Journey, however, a short circuit in the wiring could prevent you from turning the cruise control back off once it has been activated. The vehicle may then just continue moving at the current speed or even start to accelerate.

Fixing the problem only requires a quick software flash that updates the powertrain control module. You should refrain from using the cruise control system until you can have the update applied due to the risk of a collision if it does not turn off.

Airbag Deployment Due to Damaged Wire

NHTSA Recall ID: 17V432000

When an impact occurs, sensors let the airbag control module know, which then deploys the airbags to cushion you and your passengers from impact. The signals travel through the wiring harness between the sensors, the control module, and the airbags.

The wires running to the airbag in the steering wheel are located in a spot that’s prone to chafing. If they get damaged, the airbags will not deploy, leaving you at risk of serious injury.

Technicians have to perform a full inspection of the airbag in the steering wheel to see if it needs replacement. If they spot any damage to the wires or the airbag, they will replace the affected parts.

They also have to install a protective cover to prevent the steering wheel from chafing any other wires in the future.

Faulty Power Steering Return Hose

NHTSA Recall ID: 16V273000

The power steering return hose takes fluid from the rack and cycles it back through the system at low pressure. As it operates, it helps provide feedback to the power steering assist system that makes it easier to turn your vehicle.

Cold temperatures can cause the return hose to break apart and leak fluid at a rapid rate. If that occurs, the power steering assist system will not work right, making it that you have to work extra hard to turn your car. A collision can happen if you are not ready for that sudden change.

To fully remedy this issue, technicians have to replace the faulty power steering return hoses. They also have to remove the power steering oil cooler and steel tubes, then install new ones.

Potential for Moisture to Enter ABS Module

NHTSA Recall ID: 15V675000

The anti-lock braking systems rely on signals from the control module to know when to activate. However, those electrical signals can get interrupted if water leaks into the module and fries its circuit board.

Unfortunately, the ABS module in the Journey easily allows moisture inside. When that happens, it could stop working, as would the electronic stability control system.

As long as any damage has not yet occurred, techs can easily prevent the issue by sealing the wiring harness going to the ABS module. However, if they note water damage, they may need to replace the module outright along with the dash and headlamp wiring harness.

Engine Cover Could Detach From Mounting Points

NHTSA Recall ID: 15V431000

When securely held in place, the engine cover makes everything look neat and tidy inside your engine bay. However, on the 2015 Dodge Journey with the 2.4L engine, it could come loose and move around while you drive. If that happens, it could land on the exhaust manifold and start to melt or even catch on fire.

The fix is simple and only requires the installation of a new engine cover mounting system. If the cover is already damaged, the technician will replace it.

Placement of Incorrect Load Limit Label

NHTSA Recall ID: 14V711000

Labels on your vehicle let you know about its max load limits along with many other vital tidbits of information.

On the Dodge Journey, one of these labels shows the wrong seating capacity and combined cargo limits. If you follow those incorrect data points, you could end up overloading your vehicle, which could result in damage to your suspension or even cause an accident.

Techs can quickly resolve the problem by installing a new tire placard label over the incorrect one.
