When a vehicle pulls out of the factory, the primary goal is that it’s safe for the occupants. However, things do happen, and problems do come up.

How many recalls have been issued for the 2018 Ram 1500? So far, 10, several of which include:

  • Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler may cause a fire
  • Electrical system software for cruise control will not deactivate
  • Power train axle assembly rear wheels lock up

In this article, we’ll cover 10 recalls for the 2018 Ram 1500 and guide you through getting them resolved free of charge.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Cooler May Cause Fire

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V757000

Preheated vaporized coolant can flow into the EGR system due to a crack in the EGR cooler. This affects 2014-2019 Rams equipped with the 3.0L EcoDiesel engine.

Fire becomes a risk factor if the issue does not get resolved.

Chrysler sends out a notice, and a certified dealer will install a new EGR cooler. If necessary, the intake manifold will get replaced after inspection.

Electrical System Software for Cruise Control not Deactivating

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V332000

Car Cruise Control Button

A massive number of Chrysler vehicles built between 2014–2018 (including the 2018 Dodge Ram 1500) are getting recalled.

The cruise control system is not disengaging due to a short circuit in the wiring. It will not shut off when pressing the brake or manually turning off the switch.

If the cruise control does not disengage, it can accelerate or maintain speed, causing a crash if not fixed.

A Chrysler dealership will replace the software or the powertrain control module at no cost.

Power Train Axle Assembly Rear Wheels Lock up

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V556000

For some 2018–2019 Ram 1500 trucks, the rear differential was not filled sufficiently, increasing the likelihood of its failure.

If the problem does not get resolved, the rear axle assembly will fail. This can cause the rear wheels to lock up or experience a loss of drive. Both scenarios can cause a fatal crash.

The dealership will check the oil level in the rear axle. If there is not enough oil, the oil level will get filled.

Engine Cooling System for Diesel Engines

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V475000

Some Dodge Ram 1500s built between 2014 and 2018 were issued a recall due to the diesel 3.0 engine, where the crankshaft position sensor tone wheel would stop delaminating. It is causing the engine to stall by altering the camshaft timing and creating improper fuel injector pulses.

If the issue is unresolved, a crash may occur due to engine stalling.

The powertrain control module software will get replaced, allowing the vehicle to maintain stability.

Electrical System Wiring Under the Hood

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V524000

This recall affected a large amount of 2018 Ram 1500s. In most of these trucks, the powertrain control module voltage regulator chip inside the circuit board fails. This means the vehicle may stall or not start at all. or

The powertrain control module will get replaced upon responding to the recall at the dealership.

Incorrect Powertrain Automatic Transmission Park Lock Rod

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V280000

There was an incorrect transmission park lock rod installed in the transmission of some 2018 Ram 1500s that would stop it from shifting into Park correctly.

If ignored, this issue may cause the vehicle to move unintentionally, causing an accident.

The dealership will install the correct park lock rod once the vehicle is in the shop.

Powerlock Tailgate Latch Default

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V347000

This one has to do with the locking tailgate on the 2018 Dodge Ram 1500, which would not stay latched. The tailgate actuator limiter tab breaks, causing the tailgate to open while in motion.

If the problem does not get fixed, cargo may fall out of the truck bed, potentially causing an accident.

Upon arrival at the dealership, the tailgate latch will get replaced.

Faulty Back-up Cameras

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V398000

Car Rear View Camera Closeup

In some 2018 Dodge Rams, the back-up cameras would experience a loss of imagery while in Reverse, which could potentially cause a crash.

An approved dealer will inspect the rearview mirror and replace it when necessary.

Driveshaft Cracking

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V324000

Some 2018–2019 Rams have a recall to repair the rear driveshaft. It is caused by an improper weld fusion between the tube yoke and the tube, potentially cracking the driveshaft.

If not repaired, the driveshaft can fall off while in motion, causing an accident.

The dealership will replace the driveshaft upon arrival.

Brake Transmission Shift Interlock Pin Stays Open

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V100000

This recall affected the column shift on some 2017-2018 Ram 1500s.

The BTSI pin stays in the open position while holding the brake, allowing it to shift without pressing the brake.

An unintentional rollaway may occur, causing an accident if not repaired.

The dealership will replace the body control module software, test the BTSI pin, and replace the solenoid if necessary.
