When it comes to providing customers with safe and reliable vehicles, car manufacturers do all that they can before cars and trucks hit the market. Even the best testing systems can miss certain issues, however. When a problem is detected with a group of vehicles, manufacturers issue a recall.

Are there open recalls on the 2016 Ford Transit?

Yes — Ford has issued five recalls for this vehicle, including:

  • Doors may open while the vehicle is in motion (two separate recalls for this issue)
  • Pretensioners in front seat belts may not deploy during a crash
  • Roof panel may separate from vehicle while vehicle is in motion
  • HCU pump may become contaminated, affecting electronic stability and braking performance

Thankfully, we’ll discuss each recall in detail in this article. We’ll go over what you need to know if your 2016 Ford Transit is issued a recall, what could happen if you ignore the recall, and how your dealer will fix the issue.

Doors May Open While Vehicle is in Motion

NHTSA Recall IDs: 20V33100016V643000

While the vehicle is being driven, a door may open if it is not securely latched.

If this problem is ignored, there’s a risk of injury to people inside the vehicle.

If there are items in the vehicle that are not secured, there also may be a risk of creating a hazard on the road, increasing the likelihood of a crash and posing a danger to other drivers.

In order to fix the issue, your dealer will inspect and replace the door latches if necessary.

Front Seat Belt Pretensioners May Fail

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V305000

Driver Fastening A Seat Belt

The pretensioners on the front seat belts (both driver and passenger belts) may fail to deploy.

If this problem is ignored, the risk of injury during a crash is increased for both the driver and the front-seat passenger.

In order to fix the issue, your dealer will inspect/ replace the entire front seat belt assemblies as needed.

Roof Panel May Separate from Vehicle

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V260000

The panoramic roof panel may detach/ separate from the roof while the vehicle is being driven.

If this problem is ignored, the detachment of the roof panel has the potential to increase the risk of a crash and create a major hazard for others on the road.

In order to fix the issue, your dealer will remove the roof panel, then clean and reinstall the panel.

HCU Pump Contamination May Cause Electronic Stability and Braking Issues

NHTSA Recall ID: 16V482000

The brake HCU pump in the 2016 Ford Transit has the potential to become contaminated. This can cause negative changes in the electronic stability control system and can cause brake systems related to the electronic stability control system to degrade over time.

If this problem is ignored, it’s possible for the brake systems to degrade to the point that the likelihood of a crash is increased.

In order to fix the issue, dealers will replace the HCU pump.
