Every vehicle manufacturer works to create a safe and reliable vehicle for customers. They often test these vehicles to avoid any problems. Sometimes those problems do not show up until the owners are driving their vehicles for years. That’s when they need to alert owners of problems and issue recalls to bring them back in for service. For those considering buying the Honda Odyssey 2019, it helps to know what to expect in recalls.

Are there any recalls on the Honda Odyssey 2019?

Yes, this vehicle has 11 recalls as of September of 2020. Some of those recalls include:

  • Power Sliding Doors May Open While Moving
  • Distorted or Inoperative Rearview Camera
  • Instrument Panel Software Incorrect
  • Timing Belt Teeth May Separate
  • Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Harness

Keeping up with the recalls and repair concerns for a vehicle is essential. That’s why we’ll explain these to you. You can check out the other recalls on the Honda Odyssey 2019 at Vehicle History.

Power Sliding Doors May Open While Moving

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V437000

In July of 2020, Honda issued a recall for the 2019 Odyssey due to a problem with the latches and locks. In these vehicles, water can get into the outer door handle cables on the sliding doors. In situations where this happens, it causes the cables to freeze when temperatures drop. This can prevent the rear and front sliding door latches from securing into place.

If this type of damage occurs, the power sliding doors may seem like they are in a secured position when they are not. That can lead to the latch allowing the door to open while the car is moving. This increases the risk of injury.

Honda alerted owners of this problem. They had dealerships replace the power sliding door outer handle cables to stop this problem. The repairs are expected to start in September 2020.

Distorted or Inoperative Rearview Camera

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V438000

In July of 2020, Honda issued a recall related to the back-over prevention feature of the Odyssey. In these vehicles, water can get into the rearview camera mounting holes. This allows the moisture to enter into the camera lens and leads to a distorted image or, in some cases, no image at all. Another concern is when the rearview camera view model is positioned in the top-down view, the image does not show up. If it is switched from this view to another view in a bright environment, it may also not show up.

This leads to a failure of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rearview Mirrors.” If the vehicle does not display the proper image, this can make it harder for the driver to see what’s occurring behind the car. This increases the risk of an accident.

To fix each of these problems, Honda alerted owners to them. Then, they replaced the rearview camera in each situation. These repairs are expected to happen in September of 2020.

Instrument Panel Software Incorrect

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V439000

Honda issued a recall in July 2020 for the vehicle’s electrical system. In these vehicles, the wrong instrument panel control module software was used. This can lead to the instrument panel not displaying the right — and critical — information to the driver. This includes information through the speedometer, engine oil pressure, or gear selector position. This can also lead to the rear camera image not working properly.

This problem is a violation of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 111, “Rearview Mirrors,” and 101, “Control and Displays.” Honda had dealerships reprogram the instrument panel with the proper software to avoid these concerns.

Timing Belt Teeth May Separate

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V298000

Honda issued a recall in April of 2019 for the vehicle’s engine and engine cooling system. It relates specifically to the timing belt teeth that may separate from the belt itself over time.

In situations where the teeth separation occurs, this can cause the engine to stall out while being driven. This can lead to an increased risk of a crash.

Honda alerted owners of this problem. They had the dealerships inspect the vehicle to ensure the timing belt was in good condition. If not, they replaced the timing belt. Those with a replacement also had the engine inspected, and any components of concern were replaced. These problems were repaired starting in July of 2019.

Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Harness

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V213000

This recall only relates to those Honda Odyssey vehicles that had an in-floor wheelchair ramp conversion placed. In these vehicles, the rear wheel speed sensor harness may not have been placed properly. This can lead to the anti-lock braking system not recognizing the rear wheel speed accurately.

Because of this concern, the vehicle fails to meet the requirements under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 404, “Electronic Stability Control System,” and number 135, “Light Vehicle Brake System.” There is no way for the driver to monitor speeds properly in these situations. That can lead to the anti-lock brake system not engaging as it should to prevent the wheels from locking up. This increases the risk of an accident.

The problem relates to the parts and work done by Braun Corporation. As a result, this company issued the recall and is having dealerships install the right rear wheel speed sensor harness.

How Do You Handle an Open Recall on the Honda Odyssey 2019?

If you own this car, stay up to date on recalls by visiting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website. Use your car’s VIN number to pull up all applicable recalls. Then, note any that are open or pending. You can then call Honda directly at 1-888-234-2138 to inquire about servicing the car. This is often done at a local dealership.

If you are thinking about buying this vehicle, input the make, model, and year into the website. This will show you all related recalls for the vehicles. You can then make a buying decision based on any concerns you have.

When you’re thinking about purchasing a pre-owned Honda Odyssey 2019, be sure you learn everything about it before buying. You can do that with its Vehicle History.

2019 Honda Odyssey Elite is amazing for larger families.
2019 Honda odyssey - electronics have malfunctioned quite a bit. It has stopped in the middle of the street while stopping at a red light and wouldn't start when it turned green for about 2 minutes. We've taken it in several times for recalls.

2019 Honda Odyssey great family vehicle with a few hiccups.
The only downfall we’ve had was a problem with the rear entertainment system that required a replacement and this vehicle has had a ton of recalls. This has been an inconvenience to frequently bring into the dealership.

When I first bought this vehicle new, there were a few recalls which were easily fixed. Otherwise, I have been very pleased with the look and performance of this vehicle.
