Chrysler designed the Pacifica to be a reliable and safe van like all of their vehicles. However, safety problems can still occur when models like the 2017 Pacifica are on the road for a while. When safety issues come up, carmakers contact owners and notify them that their vehicle has a safety recall.
How many recalls does the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica have?
Chrysler has issued eight recalls for the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. Some of which include:
- Engine stall or loss of power steering assist
- Unintentional vehicle movement due to the manual park release (MPR) plug
- Problems canceling cruise control
- Possible crossed rear brake lines/ineffective rear anti-lock brake system
If you have a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, you can learn about the recalls here. We’ll cover them in depth. You can also learn the steps you need to know to get the problems fixed at a Chrysler dealership.
Engine Stall or Loss of Power Steering Assist
NHTSA Recall ID: 19V348000
While you’re driving down the road, the last thing you want is for your vehicle to stop or stall or to lose power steering.
However, about 198,700 Chrysler Pacificas made between 2017 and 2019 could have loose battery ground connections that can cause intermittent faults in their power steering. They can also have engine stalls.
Ignoring this recall could lead to accidents if your engine stalls while you’re on the road. Not only that, but you could lose power steering, making your Pacifica much harder to control. Both are significant risks.
The fix is simple: Dealers will inspect and clean the battery’s surfaces. If needed, they’ll reassemble the ground connection at no charge to you.
Unintentional Vehicle Movement/FMVSS 114
NHTSA Recall ID: 18V395000
You parked your Pacifica, but suddenly it starts rolling away on its own. How could this happen?
About 240,000 Pacificas made between 2017 and 2017 had a manual park release (MPR) plug that could be removed without a tool. Your MPR is a feature that allows your Pacifica to be towed while it’s still in “Park.”
Chrysler will replace the MRP plug with one that requires a tool to remove. This repair is quick and provided free of charge.
Cruise Control Can’t Be Canceled
NHTSA Recall ID: 18V332000
Imagine you’re taking a long trip. You’ve activated cruise control and are traveling at a safe 55 mph, but it’s time to exit the highway. You signal to move over and disengage cruise control, but nothing happens.
You are still traveling at 55 mph. Over 4.8 million Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles were recalled because of a potential fault in the software controlling their cruise control systems.
Chrysler will inspect your Pacifica’s software and perform a software flash on either your powertrain control module or engine control module, as needed. If you haven’t had this recall performed, Chrysler advises you to stop using cruise control.
If the problem occurs while you’re driving, you should shift to “Neutral” and firmly apply the brakes until your vehicle has stopped.
Engine Stall From Software Issue
NHTSA Recall ID: 18V049000
You’re driving home from work, and your engine suddenly sputters and stalls. You manage to safely stop your vehicle, but you easily could have been rear-ended.
About 153,800 Chrysler Pacificas with 3.6L engines are recalled because their engine control software could get out of sync with the crankshaft position sensor. The problem could cause the vehicle’s engine to stall.
Chrysler has notified owners, and the company will update the Pacifica’s engine control software for free. The Chrysler recall number is U01.
Second Row Left Seat Belt Can Become Unlatched
NHTSA Recall ID: 17V542000
You probably have a large family or regularly drive passengers around if you have a Chrysler Pacifica. If you have the eight-passenger seating Pacifica, the left outboard seat belt could become unlatched through contact with the second-row center seat’s belt buckle.
It’s easy to see how a passenger could be hurt if their seat belt becomes unlatched in case of a crash.
Chrysler’s solution is to install a shorter second-row seat belt buckle. The safety problem will be fixed through this recall, and the Chrysler recall number is T54.
Rear Pinion Brackets May Crack
NHTSA Recall ID: 17V482000
While driving, your wheels suddenly begin to wobble, and it’s hard to control your vehicle. The rear pinion bracket on both sides of your Pacifica could crack, leading to your rear axle not being centered and wobbling rear wheels.
Aftermarket manufacturer VMI recalled about 520 Chrysler Pacifica floor vehicles because their rear pinion brackets were at risk of cracking.
Have a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica built by Vantage Mobility International, LLC (VMI)? Dealers will replace the rear pinion brackets to prevent the safety risk.
Rear Brakes Potentially Crossed During Assembly
NHTSA Recall ID: 17V342000
You’re driving a lowered floor Pacifica van meant for passengers with special needs, and you need to suddenly break in severe weather. But the ABS brakes don’t work the way they should. You could be involved in a serious accident.
During manufacture, the rear brakes could have been crossed, leading to failures in the rear ABS braking system.
Vantage Mobility International, LLC (VMI) recalled about 370 vans because of potentially crossed rear brakes during manufacture.
The risk of ignoring this recall is a serious crash. Dealers will correct the rear brake attachments to correct the safety problem.
Center Passenger Seat Belts Can Become Inoperable
NHTSA Recall ID: 16V490000
You want to carry passengers safely in your Pacifica, but the center row seat belts won’t stow away properly and can’t be used. Chrysler recalled about 3,600 Pacificas because the center overhead seat belt stow clips could break and render the seat belts inoperable.
The risk of not responding to this recall is unprotected passengers riding in the second- or third-row center seats. Chrysler will replace the second- and/or third-row overhead seat belt stow bezels to correct the problem.
