Chrysler 300S Recalls: Worth Worrying About?

Chrysler’s 300 is a large luxury car that’s designed to provide a smooth driving experience as well as remaining safe on the road. The 300S designation stands for the Sport trim level for the Chrysler 300. The sport trim level of the 300 doesn’t have any recalls specifically for it, but this trim level can be included with recalls that affect its specific trim along with other Chrysler 300 trims, including the 300C and 300L.

How many recalls does the Chrysler 300S have?

Chrysler has issued seven recalls for the 2010-2019 Chrysler 300 with RWD/AWD, including the 300S, and several of them involve the airbag inflator:

  • Passenger frontal airbag inflator could explode
  • Driver side frontal airbag could rupture
  • Power steering pressure hose assembly could cause a fire

If you own a Chrysler 300S, you can find out about recalls here. You can discover the steps you need to take to get your Chrysler 300S repaired and get back on the road safely.

Passenger Frontal Airbag Inflator May Explode

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V018000

No one wants to be in a crash, but if it happens, you want to be confident that the car’s safety features will protect you and your passengers. Pressure inside the frontal airbags of the Chrysler 300S could cause the inflator to explode on impact.

The result is serious or even fatal potential injuries. Chrysler recalled over 1.4 million vehicles, including the 300S, in January 2019. Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator for free to eliminate the risk of an explosion in a crash.

Passenger Frontal Airbag Inflator May Explode

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V021000

If you own a Chrysler 300S made between 2009 and 2013, your car could be part of a frontal airbag inflator risk that could cause an explosion and the release of sharp metal fragments in a crash.

This recall is separate from Recall # 19V018000 issued in January 2019. The passenger frontal airbag inflator is at risk of exploding in a crash because of long-term exposure to humid weather and temperature variations.

Chrysler will replace the airbag inflator on the passenger side of your Chrysler 300S at no charge if it is affected by this recall.

Passenger Frontal Airbag Inflator May Rupture

NHTSA Recall ID: 16V352000

If you’re in an accident, you want to count on your passenger being protected by safe deployment of the airbag.

However, the propellant used in some airbag inflators can change and deteriorate over time due to variations in the weather. This problem can cause the airbag inflator to explode, not inflate, in case of a crash, leading to potentially serious injuries.

In 2016, Chrysler recalled over 4.6 million vehicles, including some Chrysler 300S models made between 2005 and 2009, because their airbag inflators could deteriorate over time, leading to ruptures and explosions in a crash.

Dealers will replace the frontal airbag inflators for free, eliminating the risk of ruptures and explosions.

Driver Frontal Airbag May Rupture

NHTSA Recall ID: 15V313000

Chrysler recalled over 4 million vehicles made between 2005 and 2009 because of potential problems with their dual-stage driver frontal airbags. Chrysler 300s made between 2005 and 2010 could be part of this recall.

The recall is related to additional recalls for similar problems in 2016, 2018, and 2019. The involved airbag assembly is on the driver’s side, not the passenger’s side. Chrysler will replace the driver-side frontal airbag at no charge.

Power Steering Pressure Hose Assembly

NHTSA Recall ID: 10V475000

While you’re driving, you suddenly see smoke from your engine compartment, and a fire breaks out. What could be wrong? A problem with the crimped end of the power steering fluid pressure hose assembly could cause flammable power steering fluid to leak onto hot engine parts, causing a fire.

Chrysler recalled about 23,000 vehicles, including some Chrysler 300S models, because of the potential problem. Dealers will repair and replace the assembly for free.

How Can I Respond to a Recall Notice on My Chrysler 300S?

You can verify which recalls apply to your Chrysler 300S by checking its VIN on the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website. Mopar also offers a VIN check for recalls on its recall and service campaign site. You can also chat directly with Mopar on the website.
