This recall was issued due to a software problem that may cause the vehicle to fail to warn the driver when the driver’s door is open and the vehicle is not in “Park.”

Below, we’ll cover this recall in detail to help you determine the appropriate steps to follow to have your Dodge Charger repaired by a qualified repair professional.

Driver May Exit The Vehicle When the Vehicle is not in ‘Park’

NHTSA Recall ID: 16V240000

In April 2016, Dodge issued a recall for certain 2012–2014 Dodge Charger models that were manufactured between February 15, 2011 to November 27, 2014 and equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a monostable gear selector.

On affected models, an issue with the Charger’s software may cause the vehicle to fail to warn the driver when the driver’s side door is open and the vehicle is not in “Park.”

In the event that this happens, the driver’s side door may fly open while the vehicle is in operation, increasing the risk of a crash and occupant injury.

To repair this issue, Dodge has offered to update the software free of charge on all affected models.
