For years, the Dodge Charger has remained one of the most popular sports cars on the road thanks to its impressive performance in addition to its roomy four-door design. Before you purchase one, though, it’s a good idea to first check out its history, starting with any recalls that have been issued.

Have there been any power steering recalls for the Dodge Charger

As of September 2020, no. However, there have been several owner complaints filed with the NHTSA about the power steering, including:

  • Loss of power steering while the vehicle is in operation
  • A steering wheel that makes noises when it is turned
  • A steering wheel that jerks to the left or right without warning
  • A steering wheel that seizes up during operation

Thankfully, we will cover each of these owner complaints regarding the Dodge Charger’s power steering to help you determine if the Dodge Charger is the right choice for your next used vehicle purchase.

Loss Of Power Steering

In July 2019, an owner complaint was filed for the 2013 Dodge Charger. In this complaint, the vehicle’s owner explained that the car would randomly lose power steering while it was in operation. A loss of power steering makes the vehicle much more difficult to control and greatly increases the risk of an accident.

Steering Wheel Seizes up During Operation

In July 2018, a customer complaint was filed for the 2011 Dodge Charger. In this complaint, the owner claimed that the vehicle’s steering wheel seized up entirely during operation and was impossible to turn. The owner also described a strange burning odor coming from the steering wheel when this issue occurred. Of course, a steering wheel that won’t turn at all is even more of a danger than a steering wheel that is difficult to turn.

Steering Wheel Making Strange Noises

In May 2019, a customer complaint was filed for the 2015 Dodge Charger. This complaint stated that the car’s steering wheel would make loud noises when it was turned. A steering wheel that is making strange noises could be a sign that the car’s power steering is going out.

Steering Wheel Jerking to the Left And Right

In November 2018, a customer complaint was filed for the 2015 Dodge Charger stating that the vehicle’s steering wheel would sometimes jerk to the left or right without warning. The complaint also stated that the car’s power steering eventually went out entirely about three months after this issue was first noticed. A steering wheel that jerks to one side without warning is a serious hazard, as is a vehicle whose power steering is no longer functioning.

How Do You Handle an Open Recall on a Dodge Charger?

If you are looking to purchase a Dodge Charger or you are already the owner of one and would like to check to see if there are any open recalls on the vehicle in question, you can visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website and type in your vehicle’s vehicle identification number into the VIN search bar. Afterwards, the system will display all recalls and owner complaints for your model.

If you do discover a recall on your Dodge Charger, the next step is to contact Dodge customer service by calling 1-800-423-6343. A Dodge customer service representative will be able to let you know whether your specific vehicle is still in need of repairs and can walk you through what the recall repair process looks like.

Paid $3975 to get my power steering replaced. I only have 34409 miles on my 2015 Dodge Charger. Any lawsuits for power steering problems?
