Manufacturers usually try to create vehicles that are as safe as possible. Unfortunately, there are design elements that can end up working in ways that weren’t intended. In this case, the Ford Edge door ajar recalls may put people at risk of collisions.

Were there any door ajar recalls issued for the Ford Edge?

As of Sept. 2020, no, there have not been any recalls issued. However, there have been complaints from people driving the 2011 – 2013 Ford Edge.

Some of these include:

  • The door ajar light not turning off when the doors are closed
  • The car refusing to lock the doors, since they don’t appear to be closed
  • The key fob cannot lock the doors, even when the car is parked
  • The interior dome light remains on, draining the battery

Fortunately, this article discusses how you can handle the above issues with your Ford Edge. We’ll also discuss owner complaints and how to move forward if you have the same problem.

Ford Edge Door Ajar Recall: The Door Ajar Light Won’t Turn Off

The door ajar issue tends to start happening at around 50,000 miles, which is beyond the 3-year warranty on the Ford Edge. Owners may need to pay for repairs.

The Car Refuses to Lock the Doors When in Motion

The car may also refuse to lock the doors when in motion. This is cause for concern, because the structural integrity of the vehicle may be hindered in a collision. Doors may also be opened from the inside, which could put children and others at risk.

The Car Refuses to Lock the Door When Using the Key Fob

When the Ford Edge is parked, it may not allow the key fob to lock the doors. This may lead to theft.

The Interior Dome Light Remains on, Even When the Doors are Closed

When the vehicle can’t recognize that the doors are closed, it leaves the interior light on. This can lead to the battery draining overnight. A possible solution for this is to manually turn off this interior light until the electrical system in the vehicle can be repaired.

What’s the Fix?

For all of these issues, there are two solutions. One is to take your vehicle back to Ford. There, dealers have access to a special tool called the “Essential Special Service Tool.” This tool burns off any debris on the door latch’s contacts, which may help resolve the issue. This costs around $250.

If that doesn’t work, then the entire module can be replaced for around $500.

How Do You Handle a Ford Edge Door Ajar Issue?

If this issue comes up and your vehicle is still under warranty, get in touch with your dealership right away. If a future Ford recall does come out, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will list it on its website.
