Even an automaker as experienced as Ford can miss something during the manufacturing process that eventually leads to a problem. However, a recall doesn’t mean the engine is about to explode, it could be something as simple as a faulty door latch, as is the case with some Ford Edge models.

Why were the Ford Edge door latch recalls issued?

A few reasons for the recall include:

  • Some 2011 Ford Edges may have incorrectly configured electronic module settings
  • Those module settings could lead to the malfunction of the liftgate lock
  • The vehicles do not meet the safety standards set by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards

The good news is that Ford dealers will be replacing those faulty door latches. Our article will discuss what this recall involves and how you can get your vehicle repaired for free through a certified professional dealership.

Faulty Liftgate Lock Due to Electronic Module Settings

NHTSA Recall ID: 10V-516000

Ford recalled some 2011 Ford Edges built between July 1, 2010 and October 8, 2010 after it was found that they had electronic module settings that were not configured correctly.

As a result, the liftgate’s locking mechanism could become disabled. This means that the vehicles do not meet safety standard no. 206 required by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

If this problem is ignored, the liftgate lock may become disabled and make it impossible to lock the liftgate using the remote key fob or interior lock switches.

This opens owners up to potential theft and safety issues, like having the gate pop open when the vehicle is in motion or not being able to lock it when not in use.

Repairs include heading to a local Ford dealership to have the control module replaces free of charge. You can also reach out to Ford’s customer service line at 1-866-436-7332 to speak with them about any current recalls.
