Meet the Ford Edge, the radical crossover alternative to the traditional Explorer. One cool thing about this model when it first came out was its massive panoramic sunroof. However, its size was also the cause of a problem that eventually was issued a recall.

What should you know about Ford Edge sunroof recalls?

The Ford Motor Company recalled 84 model year 2017 Ford Edge vehicles with an optional panoramic vista roof.

The vehicles:

  • Fail to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 214 for side impact protection
  • May not have appropriate lateral structural integrity
  • Create a higher risk of injury in the case of a side-impact crash

In this article, we’ll discuss what to do if your vehicle is one of the Ford Edges that has been recalled, so you can follow the right steps to have repairs done.

Increased Risk of Injury from Improperly Welded Windshield Header

NHTSA Recall ID: 17V205000

The Ford Motor Company is recalling 84 vehicles because of reduced lateral structural integrity caused by improperly welded windshield headers. Certain 2017 Ford Edge vehicles were equipped with panoramic vista roofs, which are not welded in place correctly.

As a result of the improper weld, these vehicles have reduced lateral structural integrity. In the case of a side-impact collision, occupants would be at a higher risk of injury. The issue also makes the vehicles out of compliance with FMVSS number 214 for side-impact protection.

Ford is reaching out to owners who have these vehicles. Dealers will be repairing the windshield header without charge. Ford’s recall number is 17C05, which can be used if owners would like to speak with Ford’s customer service team. The repair time is typically one day.

What Can I Do about Ford Edge Sunroof Recalls?

Ford will be reaching out to the 84 owners of these vehicles. If you would like to check and see if your vehicle is part of the Ford Edge sunroof recalls, then go to the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration website. You can enter your VIN there to search for recalls. You can also enter your vehicle’s make, model, and year to pull up more information.
