White 2021 Ford Escape From Driver Side

Perhaps you left your keys at home or locked them in the car. It happens to everyone, but it can really leave you in a lurch.

That’s why your Ford Escape may have a door code, a simple set of numbers you put into the panel to open the door. Is it time to reset this code?

How do you reset the Ford Escape door code?

Many people use the code plugged into the Ford Escape by the manufacturer. Over time, you are likely to start remembering it. However, you may want to change it either to further safeguard your vehicle or to make it more memorable. The process is easy to do and requires a few steps.

Here, we’ll provide specific information about how to reset the Ford Escape door code and make sure you know when and why to do this. We’ll also talk about a few other features you should know about if you own this car. Make sure you check out the Ford Escape’s Vehicle History for more insight.

What You Should Know About Your Ford Escape

The model year and trim of your Ford Escape is an important consideration when it comes to making any repairs or changes to it. You’ll notice a lot of changes from older models of the Escape to the newest. One key upgrade that most vehicles are seeing is a significant push in more hands-on technology.

The door code and alarm system are designed to provide a bit of anti-theft protection. From the driver-assist features on the car called Ford Co-Pilot 360 to the enhanced push-button access on your key fob, the Ford Escape has ample features to make driving simplistic. There are a few things you should know about some of the key components.

Here are some of the features you’ll want to explore in the newer model Ford Escapes:

  • Key by Amazon is available. It lets Amazon make deliveries to your car (instead of your home) by providing drivers with access only to deposit your package. Even better, drivers are required to double-check that the door is locked.
  • Ford + Alexa is another nice feature. It lets you use features in the car and your Alexa at home to pull up information or even shop from the app. Alexa can also interact with Apple, Google and Microsoft calendars to keep you on time.
  • FordPass Connect is a nice tool for those who want to be able to lock and unlock their car from an app on their phone. You can use it to turn on or off your car no matter where you are. You can even use the remote start scheduling, so cold mornings in the winter are simple to manage.

These are all great features and good ways to secure and access your vehicle. Having a key doesn’t even seem to be the easiest option any longer.

How Does the Door Code Feature Work?

The system is called the SecuriCode keyless entry keypad. It’s present on numerous vehicles, including the Ford Escape. This feature is simple to use. When you buy your Ford Escape, you will receive a five-digit code. Simply punch in the code into the door panel to open the vehicle’s door. You do not have to have a key to do this.

Another nice feature on the more modern Ford Escape vehicles is that you can program this keypad to not just one code, but more than one. That way, when you open the door, the vehicle will adjust to your preferred seat and mirror settings. Another code may work for another driver in your home.

That’s a handy feature anyone can benefit from using.

Here’s how the code works. It is located on the driver’s door near the window pane. Some Ford Escapes have actual buttons to press. Many of the newer models don’t have any actual button to depress. Rather, the number pad is invisible until you touch it. Once you touch it, you’ll see a set of numbers. Enter the code you have into the system. Don’t go too fast – that may cause the code to not be recognized.

Once you enter the code, the vehicle will allow you to:

  • Open the door
  • Unlock other doors
  • Allow the seats and mirrors to adjust, if pre-programmed to do so
  • Disarm the anti-theft system

It does not allow you to start the car itself. For that, you still need to have the key or a key fob for auto start/stop features.

How Do You Reset the Door Code on the Ford Escape?

It is actually really easy to do this. You will find it is a good safety measure to change your code from time to time – just like you would any other password you have. Here’s a video that provides some insight on how to do this:

Here are the steps to follow for even faster results:

  • Touch the panel where the numbers are lit. This allows the newer model displays to light up.
  • Enter in the factory provided code or, if you’ve reset this code before, your current code.
  • Within just 5 seconds of doing so, press the 1-2 button on the keypad.
  • Input a new 5-digit code. Do this quickly. You only have 5 seconds in between each number at most.

Let’s say that you want to set up more than one passcode. Be sure to check your Ford Escape’s owner’s manual for specifics on whether your make and model offer this.

If it does, the process is easy:

  • Press the 1-2 button after following the steps above. This will store Driver 1’s settings.
  • Press the 3-4 button to store Driver 2’s settings.

After programming these, you’ll see the doors automatically lock and then unlock. That’s its way of telling you the vehicle’s door code is changed.

Keep Up with All of Your Vehicle’s Technology

There’s a lot to learn about new vehicles and tech. it doesn’t have to be hard to do so. Check the Ford Escape’s Vehicle History for more insight.

Keyless Entry
Can't get a simple asnwer to the question, 'hwo can I get the original factory code to reset the keyless entry on my used car purchase?. Purchased a Ford Escape and dealer doesn't have the orginal factory settings. Going online requires me to go to a third party vendor and pay a dollar so thay can harvest my personal data. Not happening. I will no longer consider a Ford product.

Just remove cover of fusebox under the glove box.The factory door code is up high in there. Take a pic of it and presto you have the factory code.
