Alex Showalter
Dec 22, 2022

The 2019 Ford Escape lasts around 200,000 miles with some relatively minor power tailgate and wiring issues reported. At $17,100 to $23,400, it’s a decent value for a small SUV which holds up well over time.

Ford 2019 escape, a very good car.
It is a very good car to own. It has very many safety features including reverse camera. It also partially shuts down at a complete stop so it can conserve fuel. It is a very comfortable car with 5 seats total. It has a radio and an ac/heater installed.

My first vehicle: quite a bang for your buck!
I have never had any issues with this vehicle. The heated seats are quite comfortable, the integration with apple CarPlay is top notch, and it gets decent gas mileage. Swapping the car into sport mode makes it take off much better, which is useful on blind corners and traffic-heavy areas to get out of the way and match traffic.

2019 escape: reliable and efficient.
We have really liked its reliability and performance in inclement weather and on the steep hills in Pittsburgh. The size of the escape is perfect for me as it has enough trunk space to haul a lot of things (we even got a coach to fit). Would definitely recommend!

Great car for efficiency and affordability.
This is an amazing car for the value. It has amazing gas mileage, a good sound system and very nice interior with the screen. It is not the most techy vehicle compared to others in its year. However, the economist is very helpful on gas and the cars overall health.

Great car for the price! Love it.
I have always had some type of ford car. When my fusion was starting to have problems I started researching the SUVs and crossovers ford had. I needed a bigger car for travel since my kids are very active. I didn't want a big SUV like an explorer or expedition. The ford escape se is perfect for me not to big has a lot of space in the trunk for sports gear, groceries, etc. Very comfortable when driving long distances. The ride is very smooth if you have a heavy foot you will need to watch your speed it is very easy too. Great car for the price.

Has plenty of room and good on gas.
My car has a touch screen radio to has best of both worlds seats because half of it is leather the other half is cloth. My car has a backup camera and it also has a pretty big hatch. It has two parts of the middle console so everything is not crammed down in the bottom. It has an amazing sound system. It has two row seating so it is a perfect family car. It is really good on gas is gets 280 miles until empty when completely filled up, and 20.6mpg. It has plenty of room in it and it is just all around an amazing car I would highly recommend one.

My ford escape. It is a amazing SUV with all the latest features.
The only problem I have ever had is with the tailgate not always closing properly. I found though that there was mud and dirt in the tailgate causing it not to close. It gets great gas mileage, has plenty up pick me up to get me where I need to go quickly. It is very comfortable, has leather seats and is fully loaded. Backup Cam, Lane censors, advanced cruise control, foot lift gate. I really enjoy driving it and would tell anyone who asked to buy or lease this SUV.

Titanium ford escape is wonderful.
My vehicle has not had any problems. It is extremely reliable and very comfortable. It has every feature your heart could desire. I love the hands free option for the phone. I especially love the heated leather seats and the heated steering wheel. It come in especially helpful in the cold winter months.

2019 ford escape wont start
My ford 2019 escape was purchased 2 weeks ago at Barbee's Freeway Ford Denver. The car would not start then it did the first week. The second week the car wouldn't start just clicked had it towed to the service dept and they spent two days and found nothing. The suv started the next day , the day after it would not start. I had it towed back to them on this week after arguing with the road side service because there was a closer dealership, and it sits there today Friday. I am told they will probably get to it by Monday. I called the sales team there with no returned call even from the manager. This car looks to be a lemon bought from an dealership with the idea buy the car and its over. The car has 125 miles on it. Sorry for the purchase from this poor quality company.
accountCircle Lorenzo H
It gets good gas mileage.
My car drives nice and gets good mileage, but Does not have any features, such as radio or 4 wheel drive. If I had a choice to upgrade or trade the truck in I would. I would recommend a model such as the se or a different truck all together. Maybe a explorer as it has multiple features and a more appealing look.

Poor Manufacturing, Poor Dealer, Poor Vehicle
The day after taking delivery of the vehicle on Wednesday afternoon, I noticed a "Ticking", "Knocking" sound in the engine on Thursday. I returned the vehicle to the dealer the next day, Friday. Service listened to the noise and sent me home with and appointment the next Wednesday. After hearing nothing from service I called on Friday afternoon. They advised a new engine was required. Now three weeks from when I delivered car the second time to the dealer and now word. I contacted Ford and told them after purchasing 16 new Fords in the last 30 years I felt I deserved to have the vehicle replaced. The engine was faulty from the engine plant, faulty after the assembly plant, faulty after the first dealer received the vehicle and faulty after my dealer received the vehicle from the first dealer. Ford provided no assistance. The dealer provided no assistance. Now I am left holding the bag with a "used" vehicle with a substantial service record, unknown future service problems due to the repair and no one seems to care that I have and will incur substantial monetary losses from the new vehicle purchase.

Front seat bulges in same spot about 3 inches from the rear back hits the tail bone very uncomfortable others have ask about bulges as they say it's terriable.
The front seats in all the escapes and edge have a bulge in both front seat and came this way from the factory knew about this and rely on the dealership to hide this from the public, it was in this about bulges in the front seats but it has been removed, I purchased mine from randal reed prestiege ford great dealership, it's ford who fails to step up to the plate mfg defects design defect sad but true.........................

My vehicle mostly sleeps in my garage. I barely drive it.
It had a recall last year that took almost two weeks to fix; which was basically replacing the engine. I barely drive the car. At the time it was being fixed, there was less than 1500 miles on the car. Also, it was missing a lot of things that I wanted in a car. So that sums up problems, performance, reliability, and features. It is semi-comfortable.

Drives great, super smooth comfortable for long trips.
It runs great and it is a nice car just not big enough for me. Ford is a great car. It has power windows touch screen radio heated seats back window windshield wiper 4 door driver seat has power seats. Reclining back seat. Cloth seats, automatic start and auto shut off when stopped to save gas.

Dual sunroof is my favorite thing about this vehicle!
I meant to click 4 on the rating. It is a great vehicle. It is roomy without being to big and bulky. It has a good sized area in the back for storage, which is great for our family of three! The features are basic but that is what we like! I do not prefer anything too fancy that is hard to learn how to work.

What Do Critics Say About the Ford Escape?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Ford Escape offers agile handling and has a quiet cabin, with average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the 2019 Escape at 4/5, praising the advanced technology features available, but doesn’t like the cheap interior materials.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Escape a 4/5, enjoying the strong engine choices, but owners don’t like the limited passenger room.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Ford Escape Have?

Common problems found on the 2019 Ford Escape include rodents chewing the soy-based wiring, the power tailgate failing to latch, as well as some auto start-stop issues. Overall, these problems are relatively minor compared to many other compact SUVs from the same year, leading to lower repair bills.

Rodents chewing on the soy-based wiring is the most common complaint from 2019 Ford Escape owners in the first 30,000 miles. The wire coating has soy in it to reduce the amount of plastic, which attracts some rodents. If you have to park outside overnight, we recommend installing an LED strobe light which can deter rodents from being in your engine bay. Repairing the wiring can cost over $1,000, depending on the amount of damage done.

The power tailgate failing to latch has also been found on some Ford Escape models in the first 5,000 miles. If the tailgate shifts during transit or is damaged it may not line up with the latch. Re-aligning the tailgate costs around $250, depending on local labor rates.

Auto start-stop system issues have also been reported by Escape owners in the first 15,000 miles. There are software updates for the engine control module which improves the reliability of the start-stop system. Many dealerships will install these software updates for free, while some may charge around $100.

There are two recalls on the 2019 Ford Escape, which is similar to many other compact SUVs from the same year. The first recall is for the tires which may have a bad sidewall on them. Ford will replace the bad tires for free on affected models. The second recall covers a detached shift cable. Ford will install a bushing to prevent the cable from detaching.

How Long Will the 2019 Ford Escape Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Ford Escape can last around 200,000 miles, which is around 100,000 miles less than the long-lasting Toyota RAV4. Regular annual maintenance costs are slightly higher than some other small SUVs, according to data from Repair Pal, at $505 per year.

As a used 2019 Ford Escape reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history reports, owners should be prepared to replace the engine oil cooler for $250, the oxygen sensor costing $300, as well as the lower control arm, which costs $570.

The 2019 ford escape se is very reliable. It does not have any problems. The 4wd works great and the transmission is reliable.

accountCircle Tammy L

Yes, it is very reliable. No, the car is still in a sharp condition. I predict that my car will last for a long time. I reviewed the consumer report on this kind of car, there were lot of positive comments which gain my confident with my car.

accountCircle Karen H

Yes so far it has been very reliable. I travel through the mountains in Pennsylvania and it rides good in the mountains! So far I have not had any problems with this car. This is my sixth escape and I love this car!

accountCircle Soohie R

Very reliable. I have never had any problem with this car and I have had it for 8 months and works perfectly fine.

accountCircle Ashley S

Yes it is, I have not had any problems with it at all so far, but I have only had it for 2 weeks I will hopefully have no problems from here on out.

accountCircle KENLON M

This is a very reliable car. Have not found any problems yet and hopefully won't have any in the future.

accountCircle Javier I

Yes, no problems mechanically. It has a flappy sound that appears to come from inside the front passenger door panel. Only can hear when driving over 50 on the highway.

accountCircle Shannon T

The white paint of my car seems to make it a target for rude people to park close and scrape their car door against the side of mine. I received a low tire pressure popup alert in my car after having it for less than a month. That seems ridiculous for a new car.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is okay in the 2019 Ford Escape since it offers a standard 4.2-inch central display. There’s an optional 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3 which also has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety technology is good for a compact SUV since the Escape comes standard with a rearview camera and Ford Mykey, which allows you to set driver restrictions. Optional upgrades include blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, reverse sensing system, active park assist, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, as well as forward collision warning.

Is the 2019 Ford Escape a Good Value?

Yes, the 2019 Ford Escape is a good value since there are not any widespread mechanical issues, and it’s a budget-friendly choice. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $17,100 to $23,400, making it cheaper than a Honda CR-V or Mazda CX-5. When new, the price range was $24,105 to $34,120. Depreciation is similar to other small SUVs, losing about 8% of its current value per year.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The third generation of the Ford Escape was launched in 2013, and replaced by the fourth generation in 2020.

2015: No major changes.

2016: Updated optional SYNC 3 stereo system added.

2017: Minor exterior styling changes, updated safety tech, and new engine options available.

2018: 2.0L turbocharged engine only available on Titanium models, new SEL model added.

2019: Standard SYNC 3 on all models, keyless entry and push button start on the SE and SEL models.

2020: Fully redesigned for the fourth generation with new styling, technology, and engines.

2021: Traffic sign recognition system added to the adaptive cruise control system.

How Does the Ford Escape Compare to the Competition?

The 2019 Ford Escape is a good compact SUV since it offers improved reliability from earlier years while still having a nice amount of technology for the money.

The Chevy Equinox is a popular competitor which is available for about $500 less. Interior materials are a bit nicer in the Chevy Equinox, while the Ford Escape has better reliability ratings as they age. We recommend the Ford Escape for 2019, although the competition is closer in other years.

The Nissan Rogue is another compact SUV which costs about $500 more. Standard technology is more advanced in the Nissan Rogue, while the Ford Escape offers more powerful engine choices. We recommend the Nissan Rogue, although both are very similar compact SUVs, for the 2019 model year, so it’s worth test driving both of them.

Yes rides very smooth and looks nice love the inside the silver color is great and I like the black rims. I also love the heated seats and auto start.

accountCircle KENLON M

Yes love it, this is our 4th ford escape. It's very rare that we buy anything but ford, this new vehicle has many upgrades that our previous escapes did not have.

accountCircle Javier I

Yes it is. With ecoboost pickup is just fine and it is easy to maneuver and park. Also it sits high enough that it is easy to get in and out.

accountCircle Shannon T

Yes it is reliable and efficient. The heated seats provide needed relief in the cold dismal mornings and nights of winter. The sunroof allows for a needed gentle breeze during the warm spring and summer days. The ac helps during the insufferable heat of summer. The car turns off when at a red light to be fuel efficient which takes some time to get used to and hoping the car will start when the light turns green so cars do not persistently and annoyingly honk at you.

The especially easy experience of escaping into a ford.
It has a lot of extra space for groceries and other materials. Heck the other day we just loaded in a lot of sand and rocks in the back of it and still can handle up to 5 maybe 6 people. It is a reliable car too as it is fairly easy to drive and the comfort is amazing. The features of being able to look at a camera to make sure you are parked right is a plus and a half. Haven't had any problems outside of us at first trying to figure out all the features.

Very reliable and comfy, nice to look at without being too flashy. The ford escape is very reliable. That is the reason I decided to purchase it. The safety features are astronomical compared to cars in the same class. The mileage is very practical also. This is the 2nd ford escape we have owned, we have a 100 mile round trip commute to work each day. 2019 ford escape pros and cons.
My car is comfortable, reliable, and a good value. It has many amenities that I appreciate, including the back up camera, heated seats, and a heated steering wheel. The biggest negative is gas mileage. I wish it was more economical in terms of gas usage.

Very cozy and rides well.
I love my vehicle but I do not like the placement of the cup holders or air vents. The car rides very well and it is a smooth ride. The price is great and it is very nice. There is a great amount of room in the back seats. The back is also very great with room as well. I like that you can put the seats down to make more room in the trunk. I do not like how far back the anchors are for car seats though.

This ford escape is just the right size for me. I am 5' so the adjustable seat is really great. The larger window as opposed to a sedan is great. Would buy this vehicle again.
As an older, shorter person, I wanted a vehicle that I didn't have to climb up or drop down into. This escape was the perfect height for me to slid into and out of. I am 5'3' and my spouse is 5'7' and he said it is a great height for him also. It is comfortable, rides and steers well. The back seat leg room is fair and the back end is roomy and holds a surprising amount. My only complaints with it would be the road noise you can hear with all the windows rolled up and it will occasionally shift hard (jerk) when going from park to drive. Love the back-up camera and being able to sync my phone with the car so I can give voice commands to call. And, it comes up on the screen when I have a text and there is a button to push to have the onboard assistant read the text to you. I would definitely recommend the ford escape if you are looking for a smaller to mid-size SUV.

Looks good all around, but came with some challenges early on.
Transmission needed to be replaced after 13000 miles. It happened at start of pandemic so vehicle was in shop for over a month. Other than that vehicle has been decent. I am undecided as to whether I will lease another escape after this. I wouldn't mind a fusion again, but insurance rates are higher for that car in Michigan.

Overall not many problems I have without besides the break being a bit squishy and maneuverability of the vehicle. But the interior is great with lots of space and a decent ai system. The trunk also offers a lot of space for long road trips, baseball games, etc. But one area I believe this car model could improve on is the steering which is quite slow.

Good, bad, and the mediocre.
Drivers seat is very comfortable, however the passenger seat is more cramped and narrow. It is even more cramped when there is a car seat. Great trunk space. Wish there was air conditioning vents in the back seat. The electronic screen is super easy to link up to your phone, user friendly, and has had no glitches. The manufacturing of the two radiators is concerning due to the easy access to be punctured. The lane assist and collision warnings can be helpful yet aggressive.

Why we love our ford escape.
The color of our car is unique. Sometimes it looks blue and other times it looks green depending on the light which reflects off of it. The car is actually an SUV which gives us plenty of room to carry cargo. The rear seats fold down for to provide additional space. My husband is taller than I am so the fact that the front seat adjusts to accommodate both of us is a really big plus. Our vehicle also has many extra features including all around air bags.

Blue 4 door vehicle. Large amount of trunk space with automatic loft trunk.
We purchased this vehicle in September of this year. The seats are very comfortable with leather, but they are not a stiff leather. Gas mileage is very decent as well as the performance. I do wish that it would have more of a get up and go. This car has push start button and turns off when you are at a stop.

I feel like some corners were cut, or should I say quality was cut.
I feel as if the vehicle is cheaply made. I have had multiple things happen with car to give me in that impression such as exterior, technology, & interior. The exterior has thin plastic behind side mirrors I had a rock hit and cracked it almost immediately, as well as a tail light chipped off one side. Sometimes buttons do not work on inside. (volume, air, buttons, etc) the interior fees very cheap, back seat is super small.

It even has a luggage rack on top.
My truck is the first four wheel drive vehicle I have owned and is very reliably awesome on fuel economy; I just do not like the color- it would be better if it was purple metallic. It has a 1.5 liter four cylinder ecoboost engine, the smallest engine that ever had in a vehicle.

The perfect balance of SUV and car.
I have been driving my car for the last few months with very few issues at all. The drive itself feels so safe especially due to the multiple safety features I enjoy all the time like blind spot detection. The car sensing if and when I am too close to a car in front of me as well as reverse warning and camera capabilities. I am confident that I am safe driving this car on the highway and on city streets. I find it also offers a nice balance between offering lots of space as an SUV but does not feel too big to drive or park. Parallel parking is a breeze with the size of this vehicle and the help of the back-up camera. I also love the lock or keypad feature. I do not have to take my keys with me when I run into the store or go to the beach but can lock the car with the keypad. I specifically asked for rear ac vents due to the warm weather climate I live in and the fact that I was putting an infant in the back seat. I find the ac system to fight 100 degree days just fine and my back seat passengers are comfortable. Overall, I find my vehicle to fit all my needs at the current moment. I use an associated app that warns me about upcoming maintenance or issues with tire pressure so I always know I am driving a safe car.

Favorite car I have ever owned.
The drive is very smooth, the performance is fantastic. The features included in mine, like the sunroof and backup camera really add comfort. Plenty of space in the back seat and cargo area. The ac controls are my favorite because the passenger can control their own.

2019 ford escape se, amazing safety features.
My 2019 ford escape se is a wonderful car. I love it and all of the safety features. The car came with a safety package. The car is extremely comfortable and an easy ride. It has a leather interior. There is a lot of storage space. The air conditioner works extremely well, cools down fast and stays cool.

Great look/great feel vehicle.
I find this vehicle to be very reliable, thus far. It is a very comfortable and smooth ride. I have a double sunroof that is easy to operate. The heated seats are a definite plus. I find the performance of the vehicle to be great! I definitely recommend this roomy vehicle.

If you are looking for a car, check out a ford escape!
I absolutely love my vehicles. Have had no issues since my purchase. I live in an area that gets lots of snow, and I had no problems with the snow this past winter. Another key feature is the remote start capability - it warms your car up super fast & the app can schedule when you start your car each day. I recommend my car to anyone looking to buy!

I love my 2019 ford escape!
No problems at this moment. I bought the car back in December after totaling my vehicle in a bad accident. My ford escape runs so smoothly, easy access for controls on the wheel and the seat adjustments are easy and comfortable. The apple carplay and android version of apple car play both work nicely in my car. It is easy to Bluetooth my phone in and awesome sound quality.

Rear Door opens with a two touch button on remote
This is my second Ford Escape, I love the 2019 model. I have tan leather interior which is soft and comfortable, and white exterior. It has everything except a sunroof which I never used anyway. I love the feature that when the SUV is stopped for a red light or traffic it shuts off to save fuel and automatically turns back on when you press the gas to go. I feel as though the lane assistance is awesome also, if one is not paying attention and starts going into the other lane it beeps to make you aware. This would also be great if driving and you start to fall asleep. It would definitely wake you

The ford escape has good acceleration, yet still gets good mileage.
I really love the vehicle. It is very comfortable and easy to drive. It is very safe driving in the winter months, because it is 4 wheel drive, and the traction is great in snow. The acceleration is good with the ecoboost engine. The mileage is good for a 4 wheel drive vehicle. I average about 27 miles per gallon.

Comfortable seats. Special features at your fingertips for safety.
I have had only one problem since buying my car. For one day my voice recognition did not work, corrected itself the next day worked perfectly. The performance of this is excellent, the remote start one timing all the time, and car it either warm or cool depending on the weather. The seats are very comfortable and driver sit raises in comfort for the tiny driver like me.

This is to much quality full product. I love this and recommended for you guys.
Ford this model is very good. I am impressed it is performance. Really, it is mileage, racing speed, quantity surprised me. But there have some problems. This vehicle has not good quality mirror camera and this mic is not good. I tried to improve that by software but this is same.Otherwise, this is good.

The 2019 ford escape is my favorite car- sleek and safe.
I love my car- it drives so smooth and is really comfortable. The interior is very sleek- black leather. It is very sensitive, and while it is an SUV, it whips around like a small car. It has a ton of safety features that make me feel safe, and has push to start and a backup camera. It is really easy to use, good for someone who just started driving and needs extra safety features.

Comfortable, sleek, gas friendly vehicle.
This vehicle is the best I have ever owned, hands down. It has wonderful safety features, comfortable seating, Bluetooth, backup camera, as well as so much more. It drives great and is great on gas. Plenty of safety features in this car including traction control, curve assist, and all wheel drive.

2019 Ford Escape is a great car
I love my 2019 Ford Escape, I just have 2 complaints. First, I wish it could be a little better on gas. It's midsize SUV, but coming from a Sedan, I'm getting killed in the picket at the pump. Second, The eco boost function gets a little annoying. It makes me feel like my car is stalling every time a stop. The good thing is that you can turn it off.

My white ford escape is a great car especially if you have kids. It is big inside.
My ford has been really great to me and my daughter. I have not have any problems with it and ford has been great with us. It is easy to drive and great in gas. The backseat is spacious and the key unlock is great for when I have full hands. I highly recommend this car.

2019 ford escape could use more power.
The 2019 ford escape is a good car. It could use a little more power, especially when taking off. But it is a reliable car that gets the job done. It is comfortable and has great features like a touch screen that sync directly to my phone. Almost hands free.
accountCircle Rachel L on March 6, 2021
My car had heated seats like a heating pad.
Smooth driving, this car had Bluetooth capabilities, all of my texts and phone calls go through the car. The trunk of the car is large enough to pack for weeks vacation, has a backup cam and is reliable and safe. The seats in the car are heated and warm up quick to a great temperature, like a heating pad.

Highly recommended from me!
Has good grip on the road in s mode. Back seats slightly leans back for more comfort. Cargo space is wide and tall. Good on gas. Good miles per full tank. Favorite feature is when car is in cruise control it can detect vehicles in front to slow down or speed up to set speed. That system works well.

My vehicle is great. Love the color and technical advances
The only problem I have been having with my car which may be due to where I live, which is West Virginia. But the gas mileage is not as good as promised. I mostly got 23 and that's even on the interstate it may go up to 26 but again this may be due to all the mountainous roads in my area

Cute and perfect for couple and their dogs.
The escape has a very comfortable interior. Seats are roomy and there is plenty of trunk space. One perk is rear ac vents, which help the back seat passengers feel more comfortable without blasting the air in the front seat. The entertainment system is great, with the ability to connect with your phone via Bluetooth, so you can stream music or podcasts directly into the car. It also give you the ability to answers calls handsfree. There is also an option to disable calls, so you can choose for them not to be a distraction. The car has cup holders in all the doors. Overall performance has been good. The vehicle does not have instant acceleration, which can be an issue with merging onto freeways. However it was very reliable on a recent trip to the mountains. There are times when it has shift issues going up hills with the ac on, but it quickly sorts itself out.

Ford escape favorite SUV!
I enjoy my ford escape immensely. I use to drive a Hyundai Elantra and before that I had a jeep. I enjoy SUVs so much more. I bought the base se model with no added packages and was happy that heated seats and auto start came standard! The only downside is they took away the CD player so for long road trips I at the mercy of the radio. The phone app is also great!
