Once you’ve outgrown the F-150, it may be time to step up to the Super-Duty, which as its name implies, is built for applications that require “super” capabilities. However, just because their tough doesn’t mean they’re without issues.

How many recalls have been issued for Fords Super Duty?

There are five in total, including:

  • Seat belt pretensioner causing fires
  • Daytime running lights not dimming correctly
  • Unsecured park pawl causing unexpected movement

In this article, we will address each of the five recalls on the Ford Super Duty in detail. Then you’ll be able to follow steps that are provided to make sure a qualified professional makes proper repairs to your vehicle for your safety.

Fire After Seat Belt Pretensioner Deployment

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V880000

The seat belt pretensioner tightens the seat belt when it senses rapid movement, such as a sudden stop. That pretensioning of the seat belt allows it to protect the occupant more easily because it’s already “ready” for the potential of a crash.

In some Ford Super Duty trucks, the seat belt pretensioner can cause a fire when deployed. That could result in serious bodily harm to the occupant, whether or not the pretensioning is the result of a crash or comes only from a sudden stop.

The dealership will repair the pretensioner to avoid this problem.

Tailgate May Come Open Unexpectedly

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V864000

The tailgate has a lot of uses in a truck, including keeping items in the truck’s bed secure. The tailgate can also be used to climb up on when entering and exiting the truck bed, and to allow longer items to be transported more easily.

When the tailgate is shut, it should remain that way. But on some Super Duty trucks, the tailgate comes open unexpectedly. That could cause items in the bed of the truck to exit the vehicle, resulting in a road hazard and a risk to vehicles and their occupants traveling behind the truck.

The dealer will replace the latch on the tailgate to correct the problem.

Daytime Running Lights May Fail to Dim

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V808000

2020 Ford F-150 Daytime Lights

Daytime running lights are designed to make sure people see the vehicle. They reduce the risk of a crash and make it easier for other drivers to detect movement and the vehicle itself.

In some Ford Super Duty trucks, the daytime running lights may not dim properly when another vehicle is approaching. This could result in the lights being too bright for the other driver, which could lead to a crash.

The dealer will reprogram the controls for the daytime running lights, correcting the problem.

Block Heater Connector Damage May Cause a Fire

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V278000

Block heaters are often used on vehicles in areas of the country where it gets very cold in the winter. The goal is to make sure the vehicle can still be started in extreme cold, by keeping the engine block warm enough to keep fluids from freezing.

Damage to connectors on vehicles equipped with block heater connections may have occurred during previous repairs of other components. These damaged connectors are now unsafe and could cause a fire when they come into contact with other engine components.

Dealers will repair or replace the engine block connectors to solve the problem.

Unintended Movement from an Unsecured Park Pawl

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V8020

Being able to put a vehicle in Park and trust that it will stay there is very important for the safety and security of the vehicle and the people around it. Vehicles that move unexpectedly can put surrounding vehicles and pedestrians at risk.

Some Super Duty trucks have Park pawls that can become unsecured without warning. That results in the truck moving on its own and can increase the risk of a crash and serious injury to people in the immediate area.

Dealers will repair or replace the Park pawl to correct the problem.
